Default B16A1 in CRX problem... sporatic bog after oil change

here's the story:

my crx sits to the side for 2 weeks, never started. I start it on Thursday and drive it for about 45mins, never pushing it too hard... runs fine.

Friday, i change the oil, and try to start it... very very very hard to tart... bogs. Perhaps bad fuel? with it at WOT, it starts and runs for a bit.

Eventually, it runs fine, revs, power is available throughout RPM band.

Saturday, start it up... same problem. in gear, it doesn't want to accelerate... but sometimes it'll run just fine.

Open the hood and take a look at the distributor... looks fine. pull the plugs, nothing wrong there (outside of them being loose).

I never check the timing belt... since if it snapped or popped off, it wouldn't run at all.

So, my guess is it's the ignitor or something with the ignition system, except I don't know how to check it.

Mind you, there's no engine clanking noises or anything suggesting the engine crapped out on me.

Any ideas of what it might be is valued!

You are smart to check with the sparking system first. Just to make sure everything checks out first start off with checking your timing and setting to the appropriate spec. Make sure your spark plugs are gapped right and that the metal nodes in the distributor cap are clean.

It sounds as if things run "better" when it's at operating temperature. I had a similar problem in a civic hatch. The car would get up to temp then crap out because of the dist.

My vote goes to the ignition system. If that all fails then maybe fuel or fuel system.

at first, i thought it was bad gas (insert taco bell joke here)... but, i was getting proper fuel pressure.

turned out to be the ignitor.

Correction...

replaced cap, rotor, and ignitor....still doing it.

Checked the spark plugs... just black from the rough idle. Checked the Timing Belt... nothing unusual.

could it be the TPS? How about ignition coil? How to check it without replacing it? Could it be bad fuel?

I think i might have an idea of what it is...

I've FINALLY got a code to pop up from the ECU... code 3...map sensor. Since i'm running a Fields SFC, i think it might have something to do with it. I'm gonna replace the map sensor with a known working one and see what happens...

You might want to try it?
