b16a won't start anymore
I have a jdm b16a in a 94 cx hatch. I got the motor from hmotorsonline. Not yet on the road.
The first time I started the car it ran like crap, then one day it didn't run.
I tested the coil and it was bad, replaced it and it ran perfect.
A few days later it quit, ran out of gas, gauge isn't all that acurate. So I put 4 gallons of premium in it and it hardly ran, no throttle response and it back fired a few times. The next day I tried to start it and the car wouldn't even try to start. It'll cough once in a while like it wants to start but not nearly enough.
It cranks and cranks, I have fuel pressure, I blew out the fuel rail with air in case it was clogged, the plugs have fuel on them, #'s 1, 2, & 3 have spark but 4 dosen't, new cap, rotor, plugs, msd wires [ however the #4 wire was arching a little while it ran, you could hear it but it didn't seem to effect it.]
Someone please help I'm really aggrivated with this ****. Now what should I do.

it's all right, I checked that already.
Is it possible that I burnt up another coil while it was running like ****, it has the same symtoms?

If it's backfiring it's more than likely timing related,like dist. or timing belt is off a tooth or a couple of teeth.
Just check your timing marks and if there on,than its probably your dist.

I checked all of the timing marks and they all line up.
Would I be better off just buying an aftermarket dist, seems like these oem dist are always going bad. If so, any comments on the msd dist.
What causes this, anyone know?

I don't think it's available until mid april.

any check engine light, any codes? for ***** and giggles check your iat on the intake mani, i had one burn out and the car would almost start and when it did for a few seconds it would backfire, wierd but true,lol

I just tried using my iat from the d15 and still no luck.
I'd check the codes but I can't find the plug. I know it should be right by the glove box but its not there. My buddy from honda said it might be taped up towards the top of the firewall and right door, where ever it is I have cel on but it ran perfect with it on, plus its cold out and i don't feel like crawling around on the ground.
Now I'm going to go test the igniter unit, hopefully this is the answer.....please.

The grounds look alright, the trans to body ground is a little fraied, but not too bad. I'm going to replace it anyway, i just need to pick up some shrink wrap ****.
The car ran fine for a few days until i ran out of gas, I don't know if a ground would be causing the problem, but i'll double check everything.

Well, kinda figured it out.
I tested the coil the book way and it showed it was fine. Then tested it by seeing how far the spark would jump using a test light. This showed the coil was weak, I tried the old coil and now this coil is fine, the spark jumped much farther. Weird.
I hooked everything back up and it started, holyshit, I was amazed. #4 wasn't firing again but it was the plug wire [brand new MSD wires and #4 wire was shot ]
My car now runs perfect, all I need now is my intake, new #4 wire, oem VIS cf hood [on back order] a windsheild, and some paint. then it gets registerd and on the road ........The paint may wait, I want to drive it.
What could this be from, dizzy taken a ****, bad wire somewhere? I don't want it to happen again.
