b16a vs b18c in a CRX...which is the better bang for the buck???

Default b16a vs b18c in a CRX...which is the better bang for the buck???

B16a I can get for 1300 + mounts, but a b18c will run 3300 + mounts. Which is the better motor? I know if I go with b18c, it not only cost more, but is 300 lbs. heavier, but has more torque. The b16 is cheaper and lighter and I can also go on the botttle, and build other components with that price, but less torque. I need to make a decision soon, my d16 is letting out smoke screens when I down shift. I know I need new rings, but phuc it...time for upgrade. Guys who have both swaps, let me hear your opinion. Help a brotha out....

i dont think a B18C is 300 lbs heavier than a B16A?!? if you like nitrous, go for the B16, it'll be cheaper, but if you like all motor, i say start off w/ the 1.8

i thought that the b16 and b18c were pretty close in weight?
based on your choices...b16 with nitrous (wet direct port, IMO) if thats all you plan to do
if you go with the b18c, what are you gonna do about a tranny?
if it were me though, i would go straight b20 and then save money for turbo kit, but thats me

first off...yeah do the b18c, you will be happier in the end...and no it DOES not weigh 300lbs more!!...LOL....the whole thing weighs about 316lbs(b18c) and 305lbs(b16a). we weighed all the engines in our shop and the only fat *** is the h22 at around 385lbs...

Go with the B18c.
The B16 and B18 weight difference is not much. Overall, I believe the B18 only weighs 150lbs more than your stock D16.

i have a B18c in crx...pulls good...and has planty of TQ for such a small car...but if you are looking for the best for the money i would say just stick with the b16a like 80% of the other CRX hybrid owners out there...the difference in cost is dramatic...

as for the hydro conversion...not sure if that would work...i know the itr tranny is physically too big to fit into and EF with a b-series swap...i run a y-1 cable tranny on my car...5th gear sucks on the freeway...70mph @4000rpm

i know i know this is not the classifieds but you got to throw your stuff in the right direction so here it is. I have a 93 ls tranny with 83,xxx miles on it withjack shaft and axels, and the drivers side moter bracket for a 90-93 integra for sell. you will need the bracket for a 94 up b series into a 4th G civic all for 475$ you pay shipping .

Umm.. B16A. Think about it man.. Its $2000 cheaper.

Sure, the b18C is going to be a better motor STOCK, however if you put the extra $2000 into the B16A that you'd spend on the B18C then the B16 is going to be considerably faster.

I found that to be an obvious choice when choosing what motor to swap in my 91DX. Spend less on the original swap, and more on the modding of the motor. (wich is probably the whole reason for swapping in the first place)

nope, it certainly will go in.

It's not a complete 'Bolt In', but it has certainly been done very nicely several times. A guy even made a 'how-to' here on H-T once. It was even with an ITR swap. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Anyway, i know for a fact it can be done...and has been done a numerous time (the GSR hydro would be much better than the Y1 if you do freeway driving)

Well it's really a matter of opinion. To me it seemed obvious to go with the motor that had more hp and tourqe in stock form. Then once all my mods are done, and I decide if I'm going mild n/a, or fi I will be much faster than the b16. But thats just my opinion, and the fact that I got a great deal on the b18c didn't hurt any .
