B Series Transmission for a Sand Rail
Long story short -
There are sand dunes in Michigan
A good buddy of mine is a professional welder/fabricator extraordinaire
He loves sand rails and has had a bunch in the past, but they all use built expensive VW transaxles ($3-4k)
Reliable 300hp turbo B series can be had/made (relatively) cheap
He wants to try something different
BUT, stock B series gears are not good for a 30-33 inch tall tire. Even an aftermarket 4.92 FD will still take an 8k rpm rev limit b16 trans to 50mph in first. Way too tall to get moving in the sand.
Any suggestions?
