You're paying too much for labor if you ask me. But then again, I don't know what a typical price is in your area. I did the swap myself, isn't that much of a problem. And I'm glad I did. I got my GSR swap for $2200. When finishing the swap (running) I ended up spending about $3500 and that's with a skunk2 intake manifold, jdm dc 4-1 header, and ACT street/strip disk with heavy duty pressure plate.

i just did this swap 2 months ago here was my price list:
Motor: $3200 w/o LSD
Labor flat charge: $1243 (motor intstall, oil change, radiator tubes)
OBD2-1 jumper harness: $125 off some guy on the board
SI Mounts: $275 from Honda
Thats everything you REALLY need for a swap thats in good condition. Everything else u got listed there is just running up the bill. Though my belts look a little warn, I plan on changing them along with the timing belt when I install my cams.
Overall $1000 is a good deal for everything you got listed, so u can be happy about that. My shop wanted an extra $60 bucks to install a new clutch and $90 to install a Skunk2 IM. Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your swap like I am, well u should since ur gonna have LSD.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the swap yourself then you don't really have much of a choice than hand over some $ for labor. That seems kind of high to me but if the level of labor is top notch, possibly backed with a warranty then maybe that's not so bad.
I did a 99 B18C1 swap in my 92 VX back in April 00 and since then I have done 12 other swaps, all with 100% success. Before doing my swap, the deepest I had been into a car was changing my clutch so I took a chance and it worked out. I had the car up and running in 3 days and 0 CEL's in 6 days. I still drive it almost daily and have had no problems whatsoever. Just keep in mind that it's really not as hard as it may seem. With some hand tools, a workshop manual (Helms preferably) and patience I'm sure you could do the same thing.

I don't mean to put anybody down and not to say I know the least bit more than anyone else here, but I would encourage everyone to try and learn about their cars and do their own swaps. You will appreciate it so much more having done it yourself and not to mention save some money. The hondas are a great place to start, it is so easy to swap these motors out for one another, relative to other types of cars and putting in different motors, etc.. Just my 2 cents.

I did my swap my self, It was free. With the money I saved I got a Skunk2 manifold CTR cams, Portflow springs, ITR T-body I also put all that in my self. U can quote me on this, The hardest parts of a swap are, the first nut of the old engine and the first crank of the new engine, everything else is cake. To me it's fun, given that you have all the parts necessary and the tools, I'd do your swap in a day and charge $200 for it. Try it your self, if you get frustrated easily, have a short fuse, smoke weed a lot and/or have ADD you should pay someone to do it.

i think 6k installed is an awesome price for everything you have listed. Most places here will do a basic gsr swap for right around there.

labor seems kind of high but down here its usually $800 or less for install and the cost of installing the pumps and belts is usually included in teh swap cost.
my gf got a b18c1, put in new oil pump, new water pump all new belts, a lot of gaskets and 5 spd conversion as well as a type-r valve cover, and a few other little things for $5000 even....thats why i fell $1000 is too high....BUT if the place is good, has good references and can back it up it will be worth it later

I don't know about you $200 swap people... I don't trust may people to touch my car... fact is most non-professional mechanics makes mistakes often and just don't tell anyone about it. A swap may seem easy to some, but to people that are not mechanically enclined.. I wouldn't make your first foray into cars an ENGINE SWAP... that's asking for problems.
I know may professional mechanics and their prices... $1000 for the work your getting (if the shop is very reputable) is not a horrible price. I mean you are getting your old engine pulled, a clutch installed, a timing belt, water pump, new belts (and hoses ?), oil chg, valve adj installed and the engine back in the car for $1000... not bad, IMO.
I've done a few swaps in my time and honestly... I would not charge less than $400 for just the swap, but then again, I have alot of attention to detail and take my time not to damage anything... not everyone will do that.
BTW, are they willing to give you credit for you old engine ? And I think the clutch is a lil expensive since you're going to get all the work done at the shop.

I didn't trust anyone either, that's why I did my own, but I see why you would say that.

Re: (hybrider)
i did my whole swap myself and it was fun as hell. it took a solid 2 days totalled up, but was VERY MUCH worth it. You will learn so much **** about your car by doing it. If you don't feel too comfortable, have another set of hands, and a Helms manual. Take your time, and don't cut any corners. If you're not sure about something, don't guess. Look it up. I did my swap easily, just with HONDA-TECH swapper's posting ****, and with http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...p.php and had no problems. I mushroomed the ball joint studs, and forgot to hook the fuel line back up, so on the first start, i had a nice puddle of gas on the ground...oh and i also forgot to drain the oil out before i added the new oil in the motor....STUPID ****. just watch for the petty things, you'll be fine..
94 B18C1 FULL swap with 42k --------- $3200
ITR clutch/flywheel
(installed myself after swap was in for a week)
cold air, RSR header water pump, etc.. to
get it all done and running ------------ $800
doing it ALL myself ------------ PRICELESS
GOODLUCK

Re: (fu*kfaceC1EH2)
If your gonna do engine swaps (or anything having to do with the timing belt for that matter) I would heavily recomend investing in a Moroso Crankshaft Pulley Wrench.
There like $70 at Summit Racing and they are extremely helpfull.

The labor is a flat rate. It doesn't matter if i do some of the work or not, or if i don't get a clutch change its still going to be 1k. Also I can't do the swap myself because i'm in college and i don't have a house to do it at or a garage. Everyone is talking about installing a B18C1 i want to put in a JDM B18C since its righthand drive the wiring is going to be difficult to set up and that will take time. I'm also not very mechanicaly inclined and i don't want to mess up a project like that. And if i were to try and mess up i would have to pay a tow truck to bring it to the shop and that would be an extra waste of money. If i knew someone around KY that would do it then i might attempt to try it with them.

your car has a one piece harness anyway, and since it has VTEC, you only have to run wires for IAB, and knock.

I would do it yourself and save a grand, I am not very mechanically inclined and I put a OBD II GSR swap into my 95 hatch and only threw the O2 scensor code cause I had to reroute it. It isn't that much work, take you a couple days of working on it 5-6 hours a day. Kinda fun and you learn a **** load. my $0.02

wait till school is over and do it yourself when you move back home. doing it your self will save you a whole bunch of money use the winter months (like i have)to source all the parts needed. you could probally find your self a crashed gsr or itr and have every part needed to do the swap. salvagedirect.com i have seen gsr`s sell for under 2k. you will need a dealer to buy you one. my point is you know for yourself you`re the one that did the swap and it was done your way. i trust no one with my car the dealer is not even allowed to wash it. hybrid-honda a good place for research

my friend put another d15b in his crx by himself with no real experience with it aside from doing boltons on cars.
