Nay. You are not going to be able to utalize the powerband of the b18b if you are using the b16 tranny. midrange is the LS's bag and you totally are going to skip right over the top of it if you have gear ratios that are that short.

i have a daily driven straight b20 (basically an LS w/ torque) mated to a S4C (99+ spec) b16a tranny. i love it! 
owned by the short gear ratios. but when it comes down to driving on the freeway/highway, youll be going 80mph @ 4400 rpms! say goodbye to gas mileage! (tradeoff) but... i love it! 
recommendation for all-around driving? get the GSR tranny. think of the ratios being between an LS trans. and a b16 trans. (not too long and not too short).
boosting? LS tranny. stay in boost longer with these gears.
money ain't a thang? R tranny w/ LSD and 4.785 fd. i don't think i have to say anything more...
basically it all depends on your driving style and what the car is used for. have fun!

talk to jdmdxturd bout that combo. also DENMATIC an s4c tranny came out of a CTR not just a 99+ b16 i'm not being an *** just stating the code.
I have a ITR tranny in a ls and its my second one i love them the 1st died to a lost drain plug. you will love the itr tranny if you can find one.

I have that combo and I love it. It does rex pretty high. I cruise on 4th going 35-45 mph, but its cool though

Also a LS with the ITR or ATS final drive would be just as good. Your gears will all be much shorter, but have the good spacing of the LS tranny for that not so hot top end of your anerage LS engine.
