Default Anyone go OBDII to OBDI in Texas?

I know that vehicles 1996 and newer they do OBDII emissions test, and anything prior to that they just do ASM (In Denton county). If my vehicle is a 97, will they be expecting to do an OBDII test, or can I get an OBDI motor and they'll just run the ASM test?

I was also thinkin about going obd1 for hondata, but I have heard different stories on this topic. I asked the guy at the inspection place and he said if they can't get a reading for obd2, they just dyno test it. I have also heard that if it won't pass the obd2 test, and they find out its an older motor(obd1) they won't pass it. Untill I find definite proof, I will probably be saving my money for the AEM EMS, witch is obd2.

Emission tests are different depending on where you live. Ask around your local shops and see what they have to say. Usually the people testing your car won't even know what they are looking at.

Thanks for the info, I'll call around and see what I get. I was also thinking they'd have no clue what they were looking at anyway, except they do ask for the year Oh well, if I can find out something I'll post it up.

I got an email back from the Texas Department of Public Safety; Vehicle Inspection & Emissions; Austin, TX. Here it is:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
Retrofitting your OBDII system with an OBDI system constitutes emissions
tampering, and is also considered illegal. Vehicles manufactured in 96+ are
required by epa standards to come manufactured with OBDII systems.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

So ya, crap.

you can run obd1....just need an obd2 ecu to use for emissions test (obv. leave both o2's in it). As long as your ecu doesn't throw any check eng lights you'll pass the test. They only run obd2 scanner on it....no dyno sniffer on 96+.

Yes and also a conversion harness to run OBDI in your car.
