Default Are all B-series tranny casings the same?

Speaking for hydros only, are all B-series tranny casings the same. Can I use an LS or B16 trany casing and easily swap a GSR gear set in there w/o any problems?
Reason I ask is because I need a new casing for my GSR tranny because there is a crack and I am leaking fluid. The crack does to not seem to be fixable. TIA.

All outer (closest to the outside of the car) housing should be the same. The inners bell housings are different between LS/B16 and GSR/ITR. I believe the GSR/ITR have a larger space for the differential since they are physically larger than LS/B16 diffs.

Thanks you for your reply.

Im still a little confused though. Does that mean I can't use an LS or B16 OUTER housing with the GSR tranny interals (i.e. gear set, differential, FD, etc.) because the INNER bell housings are different?

i think he is sayin that the bell housing for the gsr/itr is larger so you would need to use one of those casting because the ls/b16 bell housing will be too small

correct if i read the info wrong

If you have ALL GSR internals, Diff included, you must use at least the inner portion of the casing (big part). You CAN use the B16/LS casing, but I think you have to take out some of the aluminum so the diff doesn't hit. It would be easier to use the GSR casing though. You won't have to mess with any shaving or shimming that way.

I think they are different, like the old style B18's because I went to the junkyard and couldn't find any manual VSS pieces on 90-93 LS's.

Thanks for your info I def. appreciate it.

I do have all the GSR internals incl. diff. The part of my casing that is messed up is the part with the shift linkage attached; not the bar with the pin, but the bar with the donut bushing and washer with one bolt. The part of the tranny where you slide the bushing over is really cracked up and that is where I am leaking. I just wanted to clarify that I can use ANY outer B-series hydro tranny casing. I do not mind having to do a little shaving as long as the process of swapping casings will take care of my leak but more than likely I will be in pursuit of a GSR casing.
