Default 99 si b18c1 swap distributor issues.

Hey guys I hate for it to come to this as far as having to get help. I bought a 99 si with a b18c1 swap and everyt seems fine and it runs good. I decided to do a tune up on it and bought everything for a 99 gsr. Well the distributor cap didn't fit. I decided to go ahead and just replace the distributor but im having no luck getting the right one as dumb as that sounds. I tried both 99 si and gsr ones. The si fits but the we wiring is different the gsr wont bolt up but has the right wires. The si on the left side needs the peach orange wire chsnged with the one below which is white. Im guessing the transmission came with the engine and the vin plate on that says it would have been a 2000 gsr. Is there that big a difference in distributors?? I know some guy on here will give me a load of crap for asking but trust me I looked all over the Internet before i decided to ask this site. Also from what I've read the si is obd2b and it appears the ecu is a p72 obd2a with a jumper to the stock harness if that helps. The only code I get is a evap purge code any help would be appreciated since im new to this.

pic would probably help a lot. gsr and b16 distributors are different (cap and rotor do not interchange). they both will bolt up to the head the same though, so i'm not sure where your issue is, or if you even got the right distributor.

Ok I can get the pic of what is on there. Tomorrow I can get pics of the ones we tried to use. B16 did bolt up but my buddy said it felt like it was running rough. The b18 the top two bolt would have bolted up but the bottom part would have to been cut off and I didn't want to do that.im writing this from a cellphone and can't find where or how to post pics. Sorry I'm not used to using forums at all

someone gave you an LS distributor then. mounting points are the same between a b16 and gsr distributor.

Oh ok. Well hopefully the 2000 gsr one comes in tomorrow. Like I said the b16 did fit but only two wires were in different spots. I didn't want to swap them unless I had too. I would imagine that the b16 even though it fits it won't run right. Wouldn't there be a deference in the igniter and dwell time?

never heard of the wires being in the wrong spots. the wiring is supposed to be the same for the same given year.

The one on there now on the top left is a peach/orange color and below that is white. When I had the b16 distributor it went on but the white wire was at the top left and the orange one was below that. They are sending a 2000 gsr tomorrow so ill get pics of everything I just don't know how to post them on here.

Thanks kyden you were right. I got the gsr one finally and it's all good. Just have a issue with my tach dropping to 0 when I hit 6000.

Let me get this straight, the cap you bought didn't fit so you decided to just drop $250 on a whole new distributor? If there was nothing wrong with the original distributor, and it was an OEM unit I'd just get the right cap for it (Should take an LS/B16/D-series cap) and return the new distributor, those parts store distributor tend to be junk, you can almost count on replacing them periodically.

Well I was doing a tune up. And I wanted a new icm so since it was cheaper to buy a distributor I just bought one. My tach gets jumpy and drops to zero at high rpm so I figured it was the icm but its still acting up. But car runs fine so I'm not too worried about it now.
