Default 98 dx o2 sensor wiring????

Im trying to convert my TWO 4-wire o2 sensors into ONE 4-wire o2 sensor. I'm doing this to install an EX header with only ONE o2 nut welded in it.

Ive wired the o2 sensor wire and ground from the 2nd sensor, to the 1st sensors o2 wire and ground. I've left the two heater wires unhooked....because I thought it would give double the heat to the Primary o2 sensor.

The setup work fine for about 30 minutes of driving then the engine light comes on.

What can i do to fix the problem.

Any input is GREATLY appreciated

What code(s) are being thrown?

Either way, you can't do what you did. Wire it back up to stock configuration and begin troubleshooting from there.

the header only has one bung welded in it !!!

Can I wire all FOUR wires Together?

Heater - heater
groung - ground
etc...........

Absolutely NOT!!! You could end up frying your ECU by doing so.

Look into an O2 simulator produced by ZipTech to alleviate the 2nd O2 sensor (I believe Zip is his username here on HT).

I didn't mean all 8 wires together to form one wire....................I meant hook the two heater wires together, the two groung.....and so on............. why wouldn't this work???

Thank You For Your Help !!!!!!!!!! I appreciate it.

And niether did I.

Why can't you do it - Lets just say because the internal circuitry in the ECU couldn't handle it (I work with electronics daily). There is no way around it....no engineering solution to make this work for you.

Look into an O2 simulator.

Certainly welcome for the help.

I have my A+ cert. I'm not in the shadows when it comes to wiring........ I hooked all the wires together, and it worked fine for two hours......then I unhooked them to be safe..........I wasn't totally sure if it would fry the cpu or not. I guess I'll break out the soldering gun and put the wire harness back the way it was. Then, I'll weld a nut into the header and put the other sensor in. Where should I mount the 2ndary sensor?

the header is a 4-2-1 style chrome plated.......I have some silver header paint so I can prevent rust wherever i put the o2 bung.

Well, the fact that it only worked for 2 hours might spell some doom for the ECU (or O2's).

Aside from that, if you place the 2nd O2 into the exhaust without a catalytic converter, you'll most likely get a code for a malfunctioning cat. The 2nd O2 is there to make sure the cat is doing its job. If the 2nd O2 'tracks' the primary O2, the ECU is gonna determine that the cat is dead....which is why I suggest the simulator.

I had said above, look-up HT member Zip. He is the designer of this product.

Do you have a website that has the install directions on it?

Do I have to have the secondary o2 sensor hooked up?
Or do I just wire the simulator to the secondary o2 sensor plug?

Just have a second bung made in the header or your exhaust so that you can use your secondary O2, that way it's like stock and you're less likely to have any CEL issues.
