Default 92 eg B18c1 swap complete just one question..

alright guys i dont have pics yet but i will soon, but i just have one question.. me and a few buddies of mine did the swap this pass weekend.. it seemed perfect, runs like a champ and everything.. But according to this web site, http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...3.php they say we need to hook up two wires, if my car was not set up for vtec.. well my car was orignally 1.5 sohc non vtec. well we hooked up that motor, and started it, took it around the block and BAM!! vtec engaged.. well do i still have to hook up those wires.. i believe its the vtec knock sensor and the vtec oil pressure sensor. i mean it feels like vtec's engaging.. but we believe my ecu has been chipped not sure yet.. just a lil more info vtec engages at 4600rpms.. that sound right for the b18c1?? also one more thing is that if i drive it around not getting on the gas .. its fine, but once i get on it, i get a check engine light.. now we are using a ob1 ecu, does anyone know how to trip it so we can find what code its throwing??
it would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

jump the connector under the dash. The one with two wires.

Your check engine light is going to be your vtec wires.

what did the motor redline at when you beat on it?

Your '92 hatch is already wired for vtec, so if you used the gsr engine harness, you dont need to worry about those wires.

What's the code on your ecu?

Depending on what ecu your using, you might have to wire up the IABs and the knock sensor.

If its redlining at 8200, your vtec is working. If it wasn't, you would redline at like 7000(?). Your CEL is gonna be the IAB's like Slopoke mentioned. You either need to delete the knock sensor from the ECU, or wire it. I dont know too much about GSR IAB's because i took that p.o.s. intake mani off mine and put an AEBS one on it.

Just go H series. J/K

I've got to agree with Too Drunk 2 See I'm going to assume from what i'm hearing that your running a p72 GSR "obd 1" computer. If thats the case you and using my "deductive resoning" powers i'm going to assume that Vtec is wired up correctly. What happens with a GSR computer and the secondary butterflys is at like 5200 RPM or something around there the signal for them to open up is sent from the ECU to the IAB's. This is pretty close to the stock 5500 rpm setting for VTEC to engage. But when the IAB's dont' open you throw a CEL and you could confuse that for VTEC cause the 2 happen in a fairly short time frame. I'm not quite sure if your Knock sensor is wired up or not so I can't give you any advice on that except to check if it is.

What I suggest you do since you can't read the CEL is this:

1) Let the car warm up and go hit 8000 rpm....this should make your ECU throw the CEL
2) With the car still running try to use a paper clip to read the code....sometimes they dont' want to make good contact.....If that is the case then cut the plug off and twist the ends of the 2 bare wires together....Then count the code out.

Its prolly a combo of Knock and IAB's....I dont' know much about knock though cause I only run p28's haha

Let us know how it works out

IABs dont throw a code, man.

There goes your "deductive reasoning" lol

Intake Air Bypass.

It opens and closes the butterflies in the GSR intake manifold.
