Default 91 CRX Si to ZC // pre-purchase questions

Couple questions, please forgive my noobness.

1. Do some ZC's have VTEC? If so, would a vtec ZC change the install for a CRX in any way? (Is there a difference in power with the VTEC? Let me know what YOU think of the two)

2. If I put a ZC in a CRX Si, is it true that I can just keep the stock tranny, ecu, and axle? Is it true that the stock Si tranny will let the car be quicker than a zc tranny, because of the gearing? Also, would a stock SI tranny have trouble dealing with the ZC engine?

3. Where can I buy a ZC from? Anyone know of a good, reliable online seller, that ships to canada? How much am I looking at, roughly? What would be too much to pay for a ZC?

4. Is there any way the seller can prove that the engine has only as many miles as he claims it does? Is the only way to tell by looking at the general condition of the engine? If the seller claims "it passed compression tests" is that just a dodgy way of making it SOUND like it's in good working order?

Thanks in advance

Default Re: 91 CRX Si to ZC // pre-purchase questions (24valvage)

the vtec zc your referring to -i think some jdm 96 up sohc's were labeled zc and might have been vtec..

but what you want --the dohc zc -no vtec in that.

yes, you can keep the si tranny,i don't think it's faster than a zc tranny though.since your si tranny stays -so do the axles, your ecu 'can' run the zc -but not that well, a 89 ls integra ecu plugs right in and runs it better.

as for where to buy a zc.. i don't know about shipping to canada, but http://www.evanshondaspecialist.com is a great source. they are located here in east tennessee, they have a big room full of zc's, b16's b18's and all other sought after motors.

i personally know of 3 motors bought from them, all were b16's(1 1st gen, 2 from new si's), the only thing that was ever wrong was one had a worn out clutch(he bought the whole tranny/longblock). there's really no way to know the miles -zc's are strictly from japan, and most japan cars get parted out after 30 -50K -i hear insurance goes up as the car's get older there. evan's is a great place, i bought a used header there, and i'll be taking my gsr to them to get my cams, valve springs, and retainers installed. when i go, my freind with a crx is buying zc. i once owned a 89 si hatch, so that;s how i know all this information on zc's.the only wiring needed -(if you have a si already) is 3 wires on the distributer -there's a external sensor near the exhaust cam on the zc -its inside the dist. on the si.

and if a motor hold's in a compression test -that pretty much says the internals are OK.

hope this helps you out. i think hybrid.crx.org -or something like that is were i found some info --go check out evan's website -there zc's are around $700
