'88 civic cx hatch and either d16 vtec or b18 non vtec
I'm looking to drop either one of the engines listed above into my car... with the d16 vtec I'd end up turboing, the b18 I'd leave stock.
my question(s):
the cx hatch has a d15b2 motor in it... is it possible to leave the transmission in, mounted, and drop the d16 in AND mate it to the transmission? would there be any other problems such as mounts? just from eyeballing, it seems that if we can keep the tranny in there, it shouldn't be a problem.
no real questions about the b18, other than...
which should I do? pricewise, the d16 is much much cheaper for me, and the turbo plans are for the next year or two.... but... the d16 has 166,000kms (100,000miles) on it, whereas the b18 has 109,000kms on it (~68,000miles). in the end, for the same price, the d16 would come out with about 200hp, and the b18 would have 150ish with boltons..
pleeeaasssseee give me advice and pointers. I'm doing this with my friend and we're both virgin swappers.... however he knows a lot more than I do.

Transmission: The 89-91 Si and DX (and probably the HF) transmission will bolt to the SOHC VTEC motor. That’s why this swap works. Three of your stock motor mounts are on the transmission, dramatically simplifying the install. Si transmissions will yield faster acceleration, but the DX has lower RPM cruising and a higher theoretical top speed. The choice is yours (i.e.: if money's tight, use what you got!). The 88 transmissions reportedly do not work because they have a different number of teeth on the spindle.
as long as that is correct, I'm assuming that I will have to change the transmission, and therefore, the mounts in the hatch and get a cable/hydro conversion for the transmission that's coming with the d16... if I go for it.
