Default 86 crx swap options...need opinions

I just posted yesterday about my potentrial aquiring of a typeR b18. Today I came across a 1986 CRX with that little carburated motor in it. Its kinda ugly, and from almost all of the pics I've seen of similar ones they look like they've got 4wd cuz they're so high off of the ground. Lowering springs will cure that but I've read there's very little room for rims and wide tires (15's are what I'd be happy with on that car). How would this car compare to an 89 civic as far as a platform goes? It's supposedly 400lbs lighter than my, CX which seriously appeals to me. A simple b18a would turn a 1780lbs crx into a rocket.
I can get this thing for $400 and it's got no rust but need interior work and paint. The kid needs $ bad. I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time on this and should just focus on my 89 civic hatch.
Any thoughts/experiences will be appreciated. This will be a street car so handling does matter to me.

Thanks

JordanP.

I'd focus on the 89 hatch intead of the crx. I'm sure a 1st gen crx with a type r motor would kick *** but its probably too much hassle compared to the hatch. Just my opinion .

It is a headache, i have a 86 hf with a swapped ls-vetc. Swapping in all the wiring and changing all the fuel components is a big hassle. The weight difference is mot that much of a difference either. I took the same motor i had in the 86 and dropprd it into an 88 crx and they ran the same exact times all day at the track. It can be done though. If that was the only vehicle available to me i would do it in a heartbeat, but if i had access i would rather go with an ef model.
