Default 85 CRX swap?????

My friend has a 85 CRX SI and he wants to do a swap.He was going to put a B16 in it but due to lack of funds he isnt anymore. So i was tellin him about the ZC engines and he might be going that route now.Now i know the black top ZC bolts directly in the 4G civics but what about the 3G's??Should he use the brown cover ZC,The SOHC ZC??.Do any of these bolt directly inand if not wich swap is the easiest??TIA

My friend has a GSR with Golden Eagle sleeves, JE pistons, Crower rods, Portflow head, Rev Hard stage 2C turbo with a straight T04 turbo, a 42.5mm turbo inovation wastegate, JG Edelbrock manifold, 900cc injectors, controlled by a Blitz SBC boost controller and Hondata 4b. It's in his EK boosting 22psi which made 505whp and 350 torque. He drives it on the street, hehehe His best is 11.8 but there's just no traction through third even on MT 24.5x9x13 slicks. I would just build a motor like this one and drop it in there, that would be some sleeper. But yea i think the easiest route would be to sell that car and look into a 4th gen, there is a lot more stuff readily available for them. Many companies make mount kits and there are many more choices for motors. It's up to what your friend wants to do but If he doesn't want to sell it then a ZC is probably the way to go.

The Brown Valve cover ZC is the correct model for an 84 - 87 CRX. Another engine that will fit is the engine out of an 86 - 89 Acura Integra. You will need the Integra transaxle and ECU if you go this route. I believe that the 86 - 87 (brown valve cover) Integra engines are easier than the 88 - 89 (black valve cover) because of the changes in wiring and etc... I don't believe that the SOHC ZC will fit into the 1st gen CRX, though.
