84 CRX 1.5 carb auto want to make Sohc vtec?
I just acquired a 84 crx 1.5 carburated car and the carb is bad. Just wanted to see if anyone has any info on changing it to EFI and retain the auto trans.. Want the best gas mileage out of it so I would be getting a VTEC - E out of a VX EG and the ecm w/ wire harness. Are the mounts the same? How much wiring is involved? Anyone done this before? I searched and came up empty handed.

The Auto transmission will not bolt up to an D-Block as the stock motor is an EW1. Would it not be easier to drop in a D15B6 out of the HF as you can maintain OBD-0 and it will lower the wiring. That is as far as I know but for a better resource on the third generation Civic is http://www.redpepperracing.com (when it comes back up)

Def. check out RPR. I'm on their alot too, it is dedicated to 1G crx and 3g civics.
In order to convert the HF to EFI you need a complete fuel and wiring setup from an si. Everything from the tank to the engine bay needs to be replaced, tank, pump, all the lines. The wiring needs to be replaced completely. The chassis harness, engine harness and I think even the dash harness.
If you get all that done you can swap in a d16a1 (DOHC motor from an 86-87 Integra. You can use 88-89 but that is yet more wiring due to electric advance distributor), without any special mount kits or wiring. It's pretty peppy with that motor especially in a HF. Or if you don't want to do all the wiring changes to your car you can get a carbed model, or convert a EFI one to carbs. The carbed ones are all JDM so you would have to look a little.
A b series can be swapped in too with the hasport mounts, although there are a couple guys on RPR making custom mounts themselves. B series is an expensive proposition.
SOHC VTEC motors would have to be a one off custom job. There are no available motor mounts to fit them so you would have to make them and then figure out the wiring.
Good luck.
