4 vs 5gen civic engine swap options??
So im thinking of building up an old civic as a project. Right now im driving a '90 civic hb dx auto and i was looking into swaping the engine with something more powerful, and switching to a manual tranny. BUT for the money and effort i can get a whole car. so my question is, with the 4th gen civics, how easy is it to swap in a b series engine, say from an integra. do i need do any welding or does it bolt right up with the proper mounts? i read that the 5th gens are allot more compatible with the b series, so i could go with a 5th gen, but i like the body style and how roomy the 4gens are. basically i dont want to be limited. is there any way i can get a b series into the 4rth gen without too much headache? this is my first build and im kinda new to auto mechanics so any help is appreciated.
thanks, Martin

He asked about the 4th gen civic and the 5th gen civic, so I told him to go through the sub forum for each of the cars he asked about.
OP, just about any engine you can get in the 5th gen civic will go in the 4th gen, BUT the 4th gen does have a slightly smaller engine bay.

Re: 4 vs 5gen civic engine swap options??
But since this is my first build im going to keep it simple and try to find a d16z6 sohc vtec, and maybe some aftermarket intake/headers/cams....
How necessary is it to have a chipped or aftermarket ecu if i was to throw on a skunk2 intake and or stage 1 cam?
Right now im just trying to get the most out of the motor without getting too involved in tuning it or spending big $$$s this is going to be an ongoing project, so il start small, but eventually i hope build it up with maybe some p29 pistons and bigger cams or turbo.
So do i need to modify the ecu to get any significant Horsepower gains? im not looking for anything crazy just enough to have a little fun.
