2000 Honda Civic SI - Swap Smog Prob
Okay, about 6months ago, I blew up my engine (nitrous/fuel related) in my 2000 Honda Civic Si. I needed a quick swap, so I swapped in a JDM b16 Sir 2 (170hp, 2ndgen engine) into my 00 Si. It was wired @ OBD2 before and now it is @ OBD1. I wont pass smog (Im in CA) . Smog for me is next yr ... is there anyway I can wire the engine @ OBD2 again to pass smog? How much does a USDM B16 long block cost? I need to pass smog, and Im pretty much screwed I think. Please help ..... People actually told me it was wired oBD1 ... but Im not certain. I bought the long block off of hmotorsonline.com for 900 bucks. How do i know how its wired? My o2 sensor is broken so I have a CEL

I'm not from CA but it's preety much known that it's nearly impossible if not impossible to pass a JDM motor. You're best bet would be to have the car returned to OBD2 (acutally the 99-00 are OBD2B ) and make sure to use a 00 B16A2.

Chances are if it's OBD1 then you'll have a jumper harness connected to the ECU then your engine harness will be plugged into that. If you're not sure what's up with your car's setup, which is never a good thing, let someone take a look at it that's knows what they are doing so they can set you straight.

Yeah, find someone that knows what they're doing.

I run my OBD2B car off of an OBD1 ecu, so I'd imagine the opposite to be true... if you get my meaning... try and get a JDM obd2 ecu, hook up all your smog equipment, EGR, etc.
research, research, research.

Re: 2000 Honda Civic SI - Swap Smog Prob (o3tc)
Ive researched ... I mean ... how do I know if its OBD1 or 2? I know the o2 sensor on the header aint connected?... dunno why. The mechanic is shady.. and has been avoiding me. I need to know if I stand a chance vs CA Smog. Otherwise whats the point of modding it. Im going 2 my frosh yr in college and dont need alota car drama. I could prolly get a fixed smog. I dunno. HELP!?

Re: (o3tc)
If you take it somewhere you might be able to slide by. Reason is that unless your car looks all hacked up and non stock, most smog guys cannot tell.
So take it somewhere that offers a No pass no pay and see if you can pass the sniffer.

lol it dosent work like that
OBDII has many more sensors that OBDI
i dont know if it even possible to get that through emissions.

if you motor runs clean enough it should pass!!!
but I highly doudt it will PASS you will need to do some **** clean throttle and body and headers...
it never hurts to get a test then see if you pass...

wow uh no
OBDII is tested by a data port plugin located near the steering column. Soooo because he is running a OBDI motor there is no way he will pass OBDII emissions.
and its HEADER, not headers.

Re: 2000 Honda Civic SI - Swap Smog Prob (Kamin)
what kamin says is true.. I run a obd-1 ls motor in my ej6 which is a obd-2 car.. and I did smog just to see.. I passed the emmsions part with flying colors but I failed on the ECU side since the OBD-2 data logger could not read off of OBD-1 ecu therefore automatic failure
