1990 LS teg w/ B16 swap hesitating at lower RPM's!
This is a reply from another thread in the integra forum:
"I just picked up a DA last night....
car drove fine (25 miles) on the way home. On the way out today in it, stopped to gas her up. Not even 10 miles down the road and the hesitations started after I shifted to fifth from vtec in 4th (hit vtec about 10 times prior to that time with no problems....
I went to Chevron and put 93 in.....
Motor is a B16 (was told motor is JDM/obd0)
The guy I bought it from said the wires are new, plugs, & dizzy cap and he also adjusted the valves.
What could cause it to start hesitating since it was fine the day prior?"
Thanks for any help!!
PS <> I checked the wires at the plugs and dizzy cap and still getting the hesitation. Also, CEL is not throwing any codes.

Re: (Morning Call)
So does the hesitation start in 4th gear after vtec or does it start after you shift into 5th gear from 4th? Is the hesitation only present in 4th gear after vtec? Or can you feel it in any gear? Just at certain RPMs or anywhere in the rev range? More details would help.
I had some hesitation problems with my swap and it turned out to be the O2 wiring, the two sensors were reversed. I just swapped the wires and all was well. From the basic description it sounds like a spark or fuel delivery issue. Look for obvious stuff like loose vacuum hoses and wire connections that aren't making good contact.

Re: (90crvtec)
Thanks for the help thus far.
The hesitation is in all 5 gears at lower RPM's. Once vtec kicks or right around the 5k it stops and the car pulls smoothly.

Re: (Hybrid93Hatch)
Here's my thoughts. Incomplete burn at lower rpms. Either it's not getting enough fuel to the engine or the spark isn't enough to completely burn the fuel. Worst case scenario would be the ECU acting up. Also check the relays for both systems: ignition and fuel.

Re: (Lord Helmet)
The hesitation in all gears at lower RPMs sounds EXACTLY like the problem I had when my O2s were reversed. When I went WOT or when VTEC kicked on the hesitation would go away (even if I slowly moved up the rev range and let VTEC kick in without a lot of throttle input). Does the car idle rough or is it only when driving?

Lord Helmet -- I'm going to check out the 2 relays and check the ECU out as well. Thanks for the input

From what I remember the car idled fine and was fine when put back in neutral. Just like you said rough in the lower RPM's and smooths out when they are high. The motor is OBD0 (what I was told) as well as the car so I am guessing one 02 sensor. 2 or 4 wire maybe you guys can give some help with that and what I should do to attempt a fix
Thanks a lot for the input. Much appreciated

OBD0 should be 1 wire. I know on my 91' integra it was a 1 wire O2 sensor.
