Default 01 B18C5 into 99EK Immobilizer suggestions please

Hey everybody,

I don't post too often on Honda-tech since I wrecked my Type R a few months back. Well, time has finally freed itself up and I've found an 99 Civic DX Hatch to do the swap with. I plan on swapping just about everything. This obviously would include the engine, the transmission, shifter, the interior, the suspension parts, 5 lugs, and the brakes.

I've been doing alot of research, reading online about the 6th Gen. swaps and have gotten most of the basics down at least with the mechanics of it all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but right off the bat, I know I'll need:

1) Rear tranny mount from a 99-00 SI
2) Driver side mount from a 99-00 SI
3) del Sol AC bracket

Other then those mechanical parts, I've been researching into the wiring/electrical fixes, and have an understanding that there needs to have some vtec rewiring. Alot of these swap guides and such do a pretty decent job on explaining all this, however I have done a few searches when I thought about my other problem.
Since my Type R is a 2001 with immobilizer, most of the swap guides say anything about having the immobilizer ecu, other then use something without immobilizer. What are my options with using the ITR ecu? How much rewiring would need to be done if I were to bring the immobilizer components over from the ITR?
I'm looking for some suggestions as to whether or not get another ecu that doesn't have immobilizer, or if it would be better to swap all the immobilizer parts into the car and change the door locks? In addition, is it safe to assume that the ITR doorlocks fit into the EK doors? Got alot of questions, and obviously a little intimidated to get this swap started until I feel good/have answers to most of these little questions. Thanks.

I'm not sure with any first hand experience, but I have heard that as long as you swap over the encoded keys and the ignition switch, then the immobilizer should work. You will indeed have to use the ITR ecu, and both cars being OBD2, I am hoping that the ecu would just be plug and pray, and everything else should be pre-wired. sounds like you'll have a sick setup, good luck!

YOu could have katman remove the immobilizer from your ITR ecu and have a constant CEL, or(what I would do), you could just get an OBD2 to OBD1 adaptor and run a chipped p28.

Another problem is that in NJ, I have to pass inspections every few years with the car.

If I converted the car over to OBD-1 would it fail as they always plug it in to get the OBD-II readout on how the car has been running, etc etc??? As much as I would like to convert to OBD-I, passing NJ's inspection remains an issue. Smog tests in NJ are either done the regular way with the sensor stuck into the exhaust, or just plugging into the OBD-II.

Having the CEL on and going into inspections with it is also an instant fail. They will not pass if the CEL is on regardless.

Any other available options? As swapping the ITR ecu and the immobilizer is a possibility... However, any other ways around it?

If that's the case - run an OBD2A ITR ECU - 97-99, OBD2 reader will work fine, and you will pass emissions - no immobilizer.

Since you have to take emmisions into account - make damn sure you use a USDM ECU - JDM ECU's won't communicate with OBD2 scantools thus you will fail your emmisions inspection.

IF YOUR IN THE NEW JERSEY NORTHERN AREA , IF U HAVE THE IMMOBILIZER , KEY, AND ECU FROM A 2000-2001 TYPE R I CAN WIRE EVERYTHING IN SO U CAN USE THE ECU IN YOUR CAR.

Run a 1996-1997 JDM ITR ECU. No immobilizer. For that matter, it doesn;t even look for all the extra OBDII sensors.

did you even read the post at all? unless he gets a jumper pack he wont be able to run the 96-97 jdm type r ecu either and if he get a jumper then he mights as well get it for an obd1 ecu.
