'00 JDM ITR motor -> '96 EK hatch... What are the potential problems???
I have been searching this forum and found some information but nothing substantial.
I am getting close to swapping a '00 JDM ITR motor into my '96 hatch, but I am finding out that there might be wiring difficulties. Are there any other problems besides wiring that I might face with this swap?
If anyone could list some potential problems and there solutions I would be greatly appreciative.
Also if anyone in So. Cali (Torrance) is willing to help with the swap, that has had experience of doing this before, I would be willing to pay for your help. I want to be a part of the motor swap but I know that I can't do it myself.
Thanks...

Here is the wiring info you'll need....
http://www.jspectuning.com/6gen/
get the 96-98 Civic EX harness since all the Vtec stuff is there, no need to wire anything up. Just swap a few plugs and extend a few wires. Easy enough.
Th only problem I can see is the ecu. I think the 00 ITR ecu has an immobilizer and you need the ITR key to start the car. You can get a 96-98 ECU for like $350-400 on the parts trader. Or better yet, get the Hondata programable ecu for the same price and you can tune it. You'll need the ecu converter harness to so you can use a OBDI ecu with OBD II ecu plugs.
Good luck,

Or, just duct tape the 00 itR key to the bottom of the steering column. Problem solved!

Thanks guys for your input...
So the '00 JDM ITR has an immobilizer as well?
And if it is, if I get the ECU rechipped (by Erick's Racing) is it possible to remove the immobilizer?

just find you a 96+ jdm type r ecu, plugs right up and runs like a charm, the only thing that sucks, is the 120 speed limiter..
