Default *MAJOR* problems with my B18C1 (need help)

well when i first got my swap, the 2ndarys werent hooked up, ignition timing was wayyy retarded, had a CEL for o2 and knock, it felt like my d16z6, staight up, from down low in the range all the way to redline, the thing WOULD NOT MOVE....

well got the o2 sensor hooked it up, no more CEL's.....went to a dyno and got 143whp and advanced the timing to 18deg's....by that time it felt MUCH better....so i decided to check it out, raced my friends GS-R teg he was stock, and running a p28 ecu (vtec at 5 and NO 2ndarys) well lets just say by 3rd he had 2 cars on me, i pulled next to him going into 5th were we shutdown, i was near tears!

so far the swap has been nuthing but PROBLEMS ! im still thinking hey its got to be the 2ndarys so i got them working, take it for a test drive, and it a little better (down low especially)......start her up later in the day, same old ****, now at a shop getting repaired due to some idiot driving and hitting me....WTF could be going on with the b18c1? tuneup was performed a week ago, nuthing...2ndarys? nuthing, compression tested, all's well..........

WTF im just LOST as far as ideas go, i understand that the SI weighs 2,300lbs, but still.....i an barely keep up with stock GS-R's, sometimes when i used to take it for drives it would run HARD, but most of the time, it will run like mentioned above

i just need ideas from fellow b18c'ers becuase i cant take this anymore, 3.5k for this? just thinking about it gets me depressed.... dunno if i should go back to the shop and tell them whats up? or find somewhere to trade her in for a JDM B18C-R or some other swap, hell even another b18c1?

thanks in advance

One question for you...

Do you have power steering and A/C hooked up on my hybrid?

well i wouldnt know since i didnt perform your swap

seriously tho, dont have a/c hookedup, and yea the timing always goes screwy every time i/we advance it, like after a week, so i know the low end is affected with the timing (to what extent i dont know), but what about the rest of the range?

Answer some of the questions...

What year is it? What all was done in the tune-up? How many miles are on the motor? How do the plugs look? What tranny are you using? How is the temp? Is it possible that the clutch is slipping? Can you verify that you have the correct ECU and that it hasn't been chipped.

Here are a couple thoughts. When in doubt do everything by the book!

I would start with a fresh distributor cap/rotor, wires, and plugs. Check your idle per the service manual, and then do the timing to stock specs PER THE MANUAL. Check the valve clearance. Check the TPS voltage per the book.

If the compression checked out, then the only mechanical issue might be valves - meaning you might need a valve job. Maybe a vac leak somewhere also.

Read the plugs to get a feel for any rich/lean condition. Maybe there is an issue in the fuel system?

143whp is not bad for a GSR. Mine basedlined at 140whp and was tuned up to 150whp (I/H/E - VAFC).

Good luck... keep us posted. I'll keep checking to see if I can answer any questions.

haha...sorry. You knew what I meant.

Well, I would do everything Ausmith suggested and see if that helps.
