All Type-R INTAKE valve springs have mustard YELLOW colored paint on the topsides of the springs.
Most Non-R intake valve springs have red paint markings on the topsides; mainly 92+ B16A & 94+ GSR, US & JDM engines.
The exhaust side springs have blue paint on the topsides and are normal B-series exhaust valve springs found on all 92+ B16A and 94+ GSR engines.

Re: **how to tell if its TYPE R CAMS AND VAVLE SPRINGS?** (Katman)
I bought some Type R outer valve springs from someone and they don't have any color on them at all. They were used so I guess that is why? Does the paint wear off as they are used? Also I bought a set of Portflow outer valve springs and was wondering if there is a way to make sure that these are the real thing? Thanks

--- from what I've seen, the paint does not wear off. Not sure whats up w/the springs you have.

-- not sure on that....I didnt know Portflow made outter v.springs, only inner v.springs.
Thanks </TD></TR></TABLE>

Re: **how to tell if its TYPE R CAMS AND VAVLE SPRINGS?** (Katman)
Sorry. Portflow inners and Type R outers. My mistake. So the paint dosn't usually wear off. Hmmmm.
Ooops. Just found blue paint on all 8 springs that I bought. The portflow inners don't have anything on them Thanks for the info Katman
Also I'm assuming that due to the color coding, that when you go to the dealer you have to specify intake or exhaust springs when purchasing?
