** DITCH THE B16 FOR A LS??**
Whats up everybody?
right now i have a b16 in my 88 crx si but the problem is....IT"S SLOW!!!! after the install i found out that the motor was originally a automatic which is only 150 hp and really bad cam profiles and single valve springs on the intake side! not to mention i bought a tranny from a guy that said it was a 92-93 GSR tranny but it ended up being a LS TRANNY!!! so right now my B16 powered crx on 17's with full interior pulls 16.0....
very dissapointing!
now my friend has a very clean and very strong LS motor he wants to sell.....he will give me the motor, ECU, and installation for 700$ plus my chipped ecu(mugen program by KATMAN) they said i should be in the high 14's with this motor ez since it is really strong. and since i am going to turbo my car i heard the LS is a way better turbo platform then the B16, since i already have the LS tranny.
WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS DO??
WILL I BE HAPPY WITH THE LS?
I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED SINCE MY ZC WAS FASTER THEN MY B16!
and later i might go with a vtec head if i really miss the VTEC that much!
THANKS A LOT!

Definitely ditch the b16, 'specially since you got basically ripped for it. And believe me i have a friend with a stripped LS/VTEC in an 88 crx/si and that poo poo moves.

the b18b is a much better turbo platform. the stock lower compression will allow more boost, and the longer gears of the ls tranny allow for extened periods of full boost.

Get rid of it. I knew a guy who swapped his LS for a B16 and his car wasn't any faster. Plus with all the bad luck with the engine you have I would say scrap it. Plus you said it only made 150 horses and had a crappy head.

I don't know why anyone buys a B16. I Have one, but it came stock in my Si. Go the route of the LS. That's what's going into my EK. More power has been cranked out of an LS motor than the GSR and the B16. Get an LS swap for about $1,300 throw on a 100 shot of NOS (yes you can easily do that with a stock LS) and you'll be running some low times.

The only thing about the LS is the lack of REVs. When I drive my friends LS vs my ZC, I end up hitting the rev limiter every time (thrills him I'm sure). It feels like it wants to keep reving, but it won't!

Yes the LS is a very good and strong motor and great for turbocharging but to say that is a lil outlandish.

get some itr retainers and springs. Make sure you dump the crappy auto cams. even the manual cams sucked in the early b16a's Get some new SI or itr cams, and a S1 tranny. you will be happy. The ls tranny is f&cking your times

you can tell if the motor was auto if you had the vin # but not sure how you could do it other wise except for parts matching. def drop the b16 (a beat one @ that), you already have the right tranny for boost and the ls is easier (read cheaper) to tune with the 9.2 comp and more displacement. i've seen a couple ls turbo's put down just as much power down as a b16 turbo's (bolt on kits).

Re: ** DITCH THE B16 FOR A LS??** (EF8SIR)
upgrade the valve train and boost. b16 turbo is the best turbo setup. cant get a better rod-stroke ratio. this set up will boost high and last longer than the ls turbo. or you could keep the vtec head and put it on the ls block, then turbo(not recommended). the b16 has more Potential than the ls. if you can find one get a jdm ys1 b16 tranny. best gear ratio for race and street and has lsd. you are limited without vtec. gs-r has more torque than the ls and has a smaller displacement. dont Underestimate the power of vtec
