Very strong fuel vapor smell in hot weather
Hello,
I have a 2005. With the weather hot in AZ, when the car is parked outside for an extended period of time, after driving for 10 miles or so, and parking, I get an intense gas vapor smell, right around the left rear wheel well.
The evap canister was changed (as the car is not driven often) as was the fuel filler cap. (No codes are thrown, no CEL). I keep speculating what might be the cause: EVAP bypass solenoid valve, EVAP canister vent shut valve, EVAP two way valve, a hairline fracture is the lines...? This happens only in very hot weather. If you have had a similar issue that you managed to solve, I would much appreciate any suggestions.
Many thanks -JR
PS. Had it checked at a dealer to no avail.

Re: Very strong fuel vapor smell in hot weather
Have you checked the in-tank fuel filter for cracks? (On a 2001 Civic with a similar setup, it's made of plastic and developed spider cracks and leaked fuel along the top of that whole assembly).
See attached photos from a 2001 Civic.
I also live in AZ and the heat destroys everything plastic and rubber. I also get a strong fuel smell on my 95 accord only on hot days when the car is hot but it is nowhere near as bad as it got on the '01 civic with the cracked fuel filter/module cap.
spider cracks in plastic of fuel filter (2001 Civic)
removed from car, was able to replace fuel filter (top portion)
