Turbo Cost

Turbo Cost
Hi. Can I please get a ballpark on how much a full turbo conversion would cost on an AP1... Turbo, manifolds, injectors, fuel pump, tuning method? Also it should be for quality stuff. Not ebay garbage. I have a friend that I believe is feeding me misinformation...

Re: Turbo Cost
Awesome.... Could someone else provide a second opinion with a break down in separate costs? My buddy swears that for $4000 you could "smoke" a lambo and I can not believe a word he says without proof. And yes I've seen the s2k from hell...

My buddy would be over 10k... He is mechanically challenged and bit on the cocky side. I'm just here looking to prove or disprove his statements. Looks like he is full of it as I suspected...

Re: Turbo Cost
Thanks for at least trying to take this seriously now. The only problem with 300-350whp is that won't "smoke" lambos. That is the level of crazy I am dealing with. If anything, I would be doing more wrenching on his car than he would. What kind of tuning system would an s2k need for the turbo psi and fuel management?

Re: Turbo Cost
Do you do ANY of your own research? When someone says to me "AEM EMS, Hondata Kpro, Haltech 500/1000, Motec if you got the bread, HKS VCon or whatever." I immediately get on Google and start researching. Hell before I would have even asked the FIRST question I would have researched or asked my "buddy" to prove it. That's why you're getting clowned/not taken seriously.

Re: Turbo Cost
Theoretically, the setup is very possible..
OBX ramhorn, eBay T3/T4, siemens injectors, cheap BOV/wastegate/pipes/FMIC, walbro, AEMEMS, open downpipe, +tune. With some weight reduction, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to beat a lambo.
Definitely a subpar setup, but making power isn't really all that hard anymore. some of those mass-produced chinese turbo's make 4-500whp with no problem.

Re: Turbo Cost
Building a 500hp monster from ebay parts is irrelevant because it will implode on itself in 5k miles.

Re: Turbo Cost
I had one of those T3/T4 ebay turbos on my GSX a while back and it failed internally, causing the fins in the compressor housing to hit the walls of the turbo, which spat metal shavings all throughout my intercooler piping and ultimately into my engine. Do not buy ebay ****. Ever.

Re: Turbo Cost
Im not trying to start an argument over products I don't support, but that's really dependent on a lot of factors/conditions. Which eBay brand in particular, under what circumstances, etc.
For me personally, the only problem I have with knock-offs is that it kills innovation. The reliability of a copy usually isn't really compromised when considering that the materials used are more than suited for the job. There definitely are defects etc., but that's definitely not the majority. I would personally use name-brand stuff, but if I had a race for 10 racks vs. a lambo and I had a budget of 4k, you bet I'd be buying up the biggest chinese turbo on eBay.

Re: Turbo Cost
I think it's just the quality over time that is lesser in the ebay parts. The ebay seller just wants money now and doesn't care if your turbo fries down the line. Companies like Precision and Garrett make quality stuff that is intended to keep customers coming back. If ebay items were made with the intent to perform for the buyer, I wouldn't have a problem with them either. Thanks for the help.

Re: Turbo Cost
Okay to entertain you and your friend here is one path:
K-Pro $1200.00
Parts do to the K-Pro conversion on AP1s and pre 06 AP2s $350.00
Manifold from a reputable shop ie Pfab, Full race, or inline pro $500.00 ish
Garrett GT32 73 Trim .78A/R internally wastegated to save some more money $800.00
RC injectors 750cc $375.00
downpipe say about $150.00
Intercooler say $300.00
Intercooler piping about $450.00 (includes couplers and clamps)
Wideband to watch AFRs $300.00
Boost gauge $100.00
Oil pressure gauge100.00
Blow off valve $200.00
right there you are already at $4825.00 Still no labor since you state your friend wouldn't be able to do it himself. Also there are always little incidentals that pop up and add costs you didn't think of. In fact I am sure I have forgotten something in the aboce list. This setup won't beat "Lambos" you would be lucky to get 400 to the wheels with the injectors being pushed by a stock fuel pump. Not to mention your clutch would be seeing the end of it's life much sooner than Honda intended. Depending on the manifold setup, how you drive it, and your local climate cooling could be an issue that adds more costs.
If you want to beat lambos (problably not going to happen until you get to 500+ hp, but I will assume you mean 98% of cars on the road.) and still have a some what reliable car prepare to spend about 7000.00. That isn't to say that there aren't setups out there that are running for less, but they are far and few between. I believe those that are running for less than 7K are those that are 1. Lucky and have a strong motor and the stars aligned for thier setup or 2. Don't drive it or drive in boost often.

Re: Turbo Cost
Yeah but it still didn't get under the 4K his buddy thinks.
Oh yeah OP I forgot the Tune cost since he won't be wrenching on his car he will need to pay for tune as well. 100 dollars per hour on a dyno if you have the setup close and good tuner it can probably be done in 2 hours. A good tuner will charge about 250 so there is another 450 you can throw on your costs.
