More Stolen S2000 Seats

I received an e-mail from a honda-tech member who had his S2000 seats stolen, asking how to protect his replacement seats.

I'm new to honda-tech, so I don't know if there has been much info posted regarding stolen S2000 seats, but on other sites there are many, many threads.

The bottom line is that the seats have been stolen from hundreds of S2000s all over the country. The replacement parts for 2 seats cost $8,000-$9,000, and the replacement seat parts are assembled by whichever dealer orders them- so the quality of the replacement seats is poor.

I recommend a good alarm system, and locking down the seats.

To lock down the seats, there are several alternatives.

Custom S2000 seat locks are available, which use a special tool to remove them, or some owners install seat mounting bolts with different types of heads (like allen heads), hoping the thief won't have that type of tool with them. I've also seen permanent locktite applied to the OEM bolt threads, and I've even seen the OEM bolts tack-welded into place. Other solutions include using allen head or button head bolts and filling the heads with JB Weld; or stripping the heads on the OEM bolts, so they can't be removed.

I went with the Custom Locks:

http://tees-usa.com/images/full_brix2_detail_2.jpg

BRIDE BRIX II $950 + 950 = $1900

BRIDE SEAT BRACKETS $180 + 180 = $360

TAKATA harness $400 + 400 = $800

As far as I can tell, commercial posts are not allowed. I think it's okay to post info about how to lock down the seats, but not ordering/purchasing info.

You can always contact me with specific questions.

Insurance will not give you 10,000$, they will outsource replacement seats and have some place put them in. Thats what happened to me - they will make the car salvage if they went and made that big of a claim.

I also suggest getting some identification engraved onto your seats so they can be identified afterwards.
Please don't buy any S2000 seats off anybody (especially EBAY) unless you can confirm they are not stolen.

Anyone know where to find these seat locks?

Luder94 08-24-2005 06:29 AM

Re: (ITRbroham)

there's a group buy going on S2Ki right now through a member named Kodakan. You'll have to show/verify somehow that you are an S2K owner, though.

BTW, there are other ways to lock down your seats aside from these locks, tack welding the bolts, or using a different headed bolt on each corner.

Re: More Stolen S2000 Seats (Kodokan_4)

Thanks for all the inquiries!

I designed the custom seat locks about 3 years ago, and asked McGard to manufacture them. McGard is the largest manufacturer of security bolts in the world, and they also manufacture the OEM Honda wheel locks. I just wanted to protect my own seats, but the minimum order is 1000 sets, so I talked them down to 100 sets, and sold the rest in a group buy on S2KI.

McGard doesn't sell the S2000 seat locks to the public, the seat locks are a special item, available from time-to-time, in direct group buys which I sponsor. The seat locks are only sold to verified S2000 owners, and currently there are no seat locks for other types of vehicles (but I'm working on it).

McGard did all of the required safety and materials testing, due to liability issues. The seat locks are super hard, so that clamping tools can't bite into the material, and the heads are tapered 15 degrees, so clamping tools (pliers, vice-grips, etc.) will slip off. There are different key patterns for the seat locks, but to have an individual pattern for each set would cost thousands of dollars each!

I hope this info helps.

HEY EVERYBODY:

I'm a NOOB, so I can't use the honda-tech instant messaging to respond to your inquiries.

I didn't want you to think I was ignoring your messages!

Yes...i would be interested in purchasing some.

That would be nice vs. tack welding or other options that aggravates removal.

taitec rails use stock seat bolts so these kodokan would work fine

Re: (Nishant)

I looked on McGard.com, under Security Fasteners, and it seems like each bolt has its own key. I was hoping to get a set of 4 with 1 key. I guess we have to find an authorized distributor, because you can't buy them off the website.

i want some! where do we find em

Kodokan_4 08-27-2005 11:37 AM

Re: (Sideways2000)

There are no distributors for the S2000 Seat Locks, and they are not sold to the public.

I invented the Seat Locks a few years ago, and had them custom made by McGard (a very expensive proposition). So the product is really mine, but made by McGard, that's why I call them "Kodokan" Seat Locks, instead of "McGard" Seat Locks.

I'm not in the parts business, I'm an anesthetist- but S2000 owners love the Seat Locks, so from time to time I have a group buy and hook up a bunch of people at once.

I don't have any Seat Locks for sale right now, but you can contact me if your're interested, or have questions.
