Icon3 J35 Swapped S2000 Running, Intercrew Auto Salon, Video inside

Here it is finally... our J35 swap in an S2000. I know it's really really ugly, but I couldn't wait to post it up online. To my knowledge, we're the first ones with a running J block in the S2000.

J35A4 from a Honda Pilot
AP2 transmission
Running the OEM ECU

Built at Intercrew Auto Salon in Garland, TX (NE Dallas area)

A few things aren't hooked up yet, but the car starts on its own, has all the plumbing connected (minus intake and exhaust), and it pulls like a monster. First startup on the dyno once the fuel system was in place yielded 269hp/286lbft at the wheels, and that was stopping at 5k rpm. Over 220lbft was available right at 2000rpm! The goal is to build up for all motor and turbo, and shoot for 9000rpm to keep us rev-crazy S2000 people happy.

Enjoy, and please ignore the ugly- especially the floppy trunk lid. It'll get cleaned up- I promise.

^_^

Pure insanity. I love how it pulls SO hard at such a low RPM lol. It's so weird to watch.

Can't wait till it goes down the track. The dyno chart is insane.

Yes, but I've only ever seen just the one picture of it online. From people who have seen that CR in person, supposedly it never ran. Plus Honda has all the resources they want at their disposal- they can build whatever they feel like building since they designed all the parts. :D

It was awesome to drive too!

I've seen the pictures (and that's all) from that Eibach meet. If you look closely, there aren't any lines hooked up to the radiator. I've also never seen a video of it running.

Thanks! Will definitely keep the Honda world posted.

My goal with my personal J block is to retain the rev range of the F20C but at this larger displacement. Gotta keep the spirit of the car alive!

It's awesome. I can't wait until it's up 100% and run it all the way to redline on the dyno.

I thought i would never see this thing run. If you know phillip he can go off course and not complete a project. This one is not at 100% yet. But in a couple of weeks it will be a 100%. There will be a better video once the wiring and paint jobs are complete. Still waiting on a few more things.

Thanks for the continued comments! Looks like someone pulled our video into the Honda-Tech YouTube channel- whoever did that, thanks!

I think the K swap is ok, but the F20C has just as much potential- just no iVTEC.

Well, to be honest- the engine first started IN the car about a year and a half ago with the new starter setup and the J ECU. It just wasn't connected to the wheels yet.

Delays happen.

Is this Carlos?

figure out a way to twin turbo it and it would be insane...i had a buddy who twin turboed his wrx and had the turbos in the front of the wheel well and ran the plumbing accordingly...just food for thought lol

I know that it started over a year ago. Then he build the trike after he got it started. With Phillip it's not so much delay's it lack of focus and staying on course. No mike it's Tommy

The turbo motor will be ready sometime next year. Phillip is talking steps to get back to the game. If everything goes to plan it should be ready to hit the track at the end of the month for some shake down passes.

what are your plans for the engine? There is not a lot of aftermarket parts available for the internals of the engine. J series can hold about 10 psi of boost on a stock block. Plenty of guys on v6performance.net are either supercharged or turbo. On v6p their is a guys named paul that has a ton of knowledge about J-series motors and so far has built the highest hp ones for customers.

The plan is to learn as much as we can. The main problem i see is going to be the transmission and driveshaft. Phillip has already broke a driveshaft when trying to launch on street tires.

Oh right, ZC should have given it away.

Parts development... I'm working with some uh... industry insiders :D to develop some new combinations of parts for the J block. Surprisingly, there are a few sets of pistons, cams and rods available on the market already- so those parts won't be too hard to put in. Most are not designed with my goals in mind though.

I've read quite a few of Paul's posts- very informative!

The transmission should be ok on the stock setup. I suspect the driveshaft was already stressed from the previous owner- the car was wrecked pretty badly when we bought it. Considering how much abuse turbocharged and supercharged S2000 people have put through the stock driveshaft, I think it can handle the abuse of the stock J as long as it hasn't been damaged already.

I respect the floppy trunk the most. I totally get it.

It's finally running and NOTHING is going to stand in the way of a drive. I completely get it.

Kudos on the hard work. I'd have done the same, maybe even without the doors...
