Ok....

I want the glass soft top so I can tint the back window. But I also want a hard top. My question was that if I have a glass soft top will I still be able to use my hard top.

I get it now. Coffee hasn't fully hit me yet and I got up early this morning. Yeah you'll have to remove the soft top to put the hard top on so it won't matter. But I would get a soft top with a glass rear window. Looks better IMO. They started putting the glass in in the 02's btw

No you absolutely do not need to REMOVE the soft top to install the hard top.

With the word remove, i mean take the soft top completely out.

All you have to do is LOWER the soft top completely, install the hard top hardware, and bam it's in there.

Now to answer your next question, glass, or plastic, no, it does not matter which soft top you have, an OEM hard top/mugen HT/will fit over it.

Thank you. Thats what I was wondering. Id want the soft top on if I went like to the beach or on a trip because I would have no room to store the hard top. Thanks jayjones.

How much do OEM hardtops go for?

No problem at all.

I take my hard top off when i go on long trips too, i love top down too.

Hard tops usually go from 1700-2000 without hardware.

I paid $2,100.00 for mine, with hardware.

I'm going to have to say, it was well worth it.

I'll eventually get a hard top too. Good to know that you don't have to take the soft top completely off. Coulda swore I read somewhere you had to. But hey learn something everyday right?

And $2100 with hardware isn't bad at all

glass soft tops can be had from robbins for like $500. Look on ebay for S2000 top. I bought mine from a reputable aftermarket manufacturer (whose name I forgot) and it fits perfect. I even installed it myself. There's a writeup on S2KI by member "cyclon" in the DIY section. It's awesome.

It's a huge pain to install. But upholstery shops around here wanted like $800-1200 to install the top even after I had taken apart the interior and removed the old top.

F that. It was worth the trouble to just do it myself. I'm a perfectionist so it took me a little while to get everything to fit just like I wanted it to.

how long does it take? mine has a few holes in it, that's why i got my hard top. I want to replace it.

It sucks how they all rip in that middle area above the driver and passenger head.

I took me a while. The labor rate on them is like 9 or 10hrs, IIRC. It took me a little longer than that total...but there were a few hangups on the way...like putting the rivets in the rain bar in backwards. Plus, I'm including the time used to source rivets of the correct size and a rivet tool and other misc. stuff. Plus, joe (cyclon) recommended getting an elastic strap for the rear hinge...so I had to go to a clothing/hobby store and get some of that. I think the robbins top comes with the strap, though. If I did it a second time around, I could probably do it in like 5 or 6 hours. Just pay close attention to how everything is oriented stock...the orientation of seemingly trivial stuff is very important.

I took out the interior completely to give me more room...I hate being cramped up and it only takes a 20-30 mins to take the roll bars/seats/secret compartment out.

It helps to have a second hand for the rear rain bar.

Mark around the screws that hold in the weather stripping carefully...they're a bitch to put back how they were. The weather stripping at first looked very crooked and leaked a lot. A little adjusting took care of it. The holes are slotted for adjustments.

much more reputable than my memory, jerk.

lol I'd do the robbins top if I had to do it again, though. They seem to be more complete as far as hardware. Plus, I think that the part around the front weather stripping fits better with the Robbins top.
