Berk Technology Header installed pics...
I just got my header yesterday.
Berk Technology with 50mm Primaries to a 63.5mm Collector.
4-2-1 Design

just curious... why did you decide to heat wrap your header and test pipe? what is the advantage to doing that on a stock setup?

if you heat wrap it, the header stays cooler, which i guess in turn might help from heat soak

its my understanding that the header actually stays hotter with heat wrap, but everything else under the hood stays cooler.

I've been told the same thing, that the wrap keeps the header hot and hotter exhaust air flows faster, all while keeping the heat contained from other underhood components.
I believe the issue with the wraps is that the header itself could crack from the higher temps but not sure if that's a valid concern on a street car.

x2. Good for keeping the exhaust hot and fast going to a turbo, or earlier light off of the catalytic converter.

Who cares if the exhaust gas is hot? It's exiting the car. That can be as hot as it needs to, but the wrap is for containing the heat and not letting it spread throughout the engine bay.

There are 2 reasons I wrapped the test pipe:
1) The catalytic converter does have a heatshield
2) I had leftover wrap and it looks cool
The header itself I wrapped because with an aftermarket header I can't run the stock heatshield. And as I daily my S it deals with all sorts of extremes and I do not want the underhood temps too go way up.
The real purpose of header wrap is to contain heat, which happens to have the benefit of increasing the velocity of the exhaust. Since the engine is a pump, all the exhaust is going to travel at the same rate, so the exhaust getting out of the cylinder will exit at higher rate which is more efficient.
*EDIT* And just to **** off anyone who thinks it is gay to wrap your headers I have enough wrap leftover to wrap my cat-back as well..

Essentially if I had been a good boy and loved trees and **** then the header wrap would help the catalytic converter begin operating sooner. Therefore reducing emissions even further.
Which actually in turn means when it comes time to pass emissions and I swap the cat back in it should pass no problem.

.</TD></TR></TABLE> I have a friend who had a wrapped DC Sports header on a DA and it eventually cracked. I dont know if it was partially due to it being DC Sports and not the greatest quality or because it was ceramic.
