New to honda, may get a Ruckus
 

I've rode yamaha dirtbikes and quads all my life, and this will be my first honda.

My friend has a 2003 Ruckus that he's willing to give me for free, but it fell on some hard times and is in real rough shape.

It doesnt run, and has been outside almost all its life, it needs a gas tank and the carb rebuilt, parts missing from the carb so I'll prolly just buy a new one. It has almost 10,000 miles on it, he's changed the oil and coolant in it (not orig owner) and he said he couldnt get it running right because the rubber part that connects from the carb to the engine was rotted. It also needs an ignition switch, and a computer because he says the electric start doesnt work.
Its been sitting for a year or so, carb off but the intake was covered and the engine is not locked. He said he couldnt get it to run over 30mph too when it was running

Is this worth the work?

I'd take it as a parts bike or a swap bike but to fix up? No... Even a swap is pretty unreliable but if it's a free bike why not?

The older ruckus's are slower than the newer ones and less reliable from what I've heard. If he doesn't mind you using it as a parts bike do it.
