Icon2 Will a F20B fit in a 95 prelude?

I an looking at replacing my current non-vtec with a vtec in my 95 prelude. I was wondering if a F20B would fit in the car and what if any modifications would have to be made?

Yes it will convert it to OBD-1 and use your current mounts. Run the P13 ecu until you get a chipped P28. Wire up vtec and have fun. I think thats it. If anymore is needed anyone please add to the list.

Why an F20b?

Its an easy swap. Same as an H22 swap. You might need to swap out your current front motor mount bracket. Use an OBD1 H22 dizzy. Use your harness and fit it to the f20 when its on the ground. youll have to graft 3 wires along the harness. Knock sensor wire, VTEC solenoid wire and VTEC oil pressure switch wire. The F20b's 3 wire IAC wont work with OBD1 management. 2 options, use an H22 upper plenum (it has provision for a 2 wire IAC.) or an adapter plate. Blactrax and Rosko racing carry them.

Again. Why an F20b? It has no torque.

why an f20b?

it's an iron block without the frm, makes it ideal for forged pistons for a turbo setup or a high compression all motor setup.

INCORRECT- Its an aluminum block

You can spend the same $$ on an H22 with compatible pistons and it will make more hp and torque. All that FRM slamming is old news.

FRM is quite gay, knowing that it WILL burn oil at some point.

I took out a fine running H22 for the F20B...just because. But anyway, there is a 11 ft.lb difference I think, and YES you actually feel it. But then again I had an 8lb flywheel installed with the F20B, and stock one on the H22, so that could be why it feels different.

All engines will burn oil at some point. At 200k, I see more blue smoking GSR's, while I'm loosing a quart every 5k miles, all of that leaking out of my timing side seals

Youre downsizing from a 2.3 liter to a 2.0 liter.
The F20b has less torque than your H23. Not good in a heavy prelude.
I did an F20b swap for a customer and the car didnt "pull" as hard as an H22.
Have you considered an H22 or H23 bluetop DOHC VTEC swap?

if the f20b's crank mains are the same size, assuming it's a similar casting to the other f series, i don't see why you couldn't put your h23 crank in it and bore it out to 87mm or more. make yourself an f23b or something.

The best voted honda of the year (Stickydiljoe) was Big Mikes 92-96 Honda prelude which has a F20b in it. Something to think about.

^^^^ Ok??? I didnt say it pulls hard or walks people. I just said that the best voted honda has an f20b in. So it must be a good motor. Dont get all ahead of yourself.

Ha Ha! Youre using a B16 as a basis of a quick car. You should pick races against D15 4drs. Youll win everytime. The H22 against the F20b, all stock, same car. The H22 walks the F20b anyday.

lol i used to rape b16s and beat but not rape b18s with my f22b1 sohc. but any how, ive had both h22 and now currently f20b, in my 94 accord. gotta tell ya like both but i like the f20b more only cause its different not many people have them unlike h22's where everyone and their brother have one. plus i was able to pick one up for 500 bucks with only 20k on it from jdmenginezone.com depending on where you look you can pay anywhere from 500 to 2500 for just the f20b engine and your more likely to pay more for the h22 cause of supply and demand. its really only more about preference the whole 20hp diff screw it make up for it with a good tune and minor bolt ons.

Completley understandable. In the "uniqueness department", the F20b wins.

11 pound feet of torque difference between the F20B and H23A, 11, eleven, ELEVEN.

You talk about it like it's the difference in torque between a Cummins diesel and a Geo Metro.

11. Yes. But across what range in the powerband? I did the swap. The customers H22 started knocking, he chose the F20b. I installed it. Compared to the old tired H22, the F20b just didnt pull as hard as the H22. Small valves, TB and displacement really takes its toll in the heavier Hondas.
Why did honda make the F20b in the first place? Wasnt it to increase sub 2 liter production to avoid paying higher taxes? Or something like that.
