What to do
I'm not sure what to do to my 99 Prelude, shold I boost it with a Drag turbo kit, super charge it, or keep it N/A and throw some ITBs on it. This is my DD and I dont want to do a lot of internal work and im just looking for a gain of 40-60 hp.
Would I pass inspection with ITBs in the state of NC |
Your prelude is obd2, and in NC, that means you'll need to pass a plug-in scan. Which means that your car will have to be able to run on the obd2 ecu. That will not be possible with ITBs.
ITBs are cool, yes, but not necessary to reach your goal. Take a look around at some of the NA builds on this site, you'd most likely be able to get away with those kinda gains with a nice header, a great set of cams, and possibly some type-s pistons, plus tuning of course. Your car most likely puts down about mid 160s to the ground right now. I think you could easily slap down 200whp or 210whp with a few simple NA mods, and you'd still be able to drive it, though carefully, with the obd2 ecu just long enough to get it inspected. |
so I couldnt use a hondaTA I have to keep the stock ecu, what about South Carolina when it comes to inspection
|
Not sure about SC. I'm from Raleigh, which is why I know about NC inspection.
You'll want to use something like hondata but on an obd1 ecu and with an adapter harness, then you'll need the stock ecu for the insp. |
