Hey guys.....was wondering if any of you have had this problem.....on the back windshield of my 96 Prelude...there seems to be a piece of weatherstripping?? at the bottom of the rear windshield...it is starting to crack and peel up exposing an ugly strip of metal underneath it that is starting to rust on the exsposed pieces. HAve any of you had this problem? If so...what did you do about it? Any idea what may have caused it..I had been putting armor all on all of the rubber seals about everytime I washed the thing but it still did it.

That's probably why it started cracking. About three people I know personally also used Armor All on there dash, tires, seats etc. and it all started cracking. I also heard other people using it and did the same thing to them. Use Lexol from now on. Or some other brand.

I haven't been putting anything on it recently but it is still cracking and getting worse. It is just this one piece. Anyone have any idea on a good fix?

Its a common rpbolem on 4th gens. Mine is cracked (and coming off) on the seal where the windshild meets the back of the trunklid.

Yeah.........Thats exactly what mine is doing. Is there anyway to fix it, or at least make it where it isn't so noticable?

Probably just replace the molding

when i bought my prelude that was the first thing i fixed on it. they run about $70 at honda. replace it

When I got my '92, it was peeling off, so I peeled the rest of the coating off of the metal strip, taped up the area around it, primed it and painted it. I tried some kind of silicon sealant along the glass side before I painted it, but it has hardened and come off. This will work temporarily, but I plan on buying a new strip once I get the money.

yeah,I just sanded it down and painted it with a flat black paint. Looks 110x better, but not like new.

I was considering painting it black once it all came off. My car is black so I don't think it would look bad. But without the weatherstripping, isn't there a chance of it leaking?

I guess there is a chance for leaking - that's why I tried out a sealant. Try to put some sealant on yourself and keep an eye on it for cracking or anything. If it does go bad, like mine did, well I guess just get a new strip, at least that's what I'm shooting for.

I just ordered one of those trim pieces from the dealer for a little over 100$ Canadian.
I put some electrical tape over it (just the right width) for now and unless you look close (less than 1 ft) you can't tell! Just call me Ghetto-Man!

Almost all the 4th gens I've seen, including my own have this defect to some degree. It's damn hard to renovate to a decent standard. In the end I decided to replace it - cost £73.00 + freight. Bite the bullet and replace it.

I am in the same boat! mine's a '92
I havent enquired on the price, but I know I have had the same problem with another vehicle, and it's not easy to get rid of the pieces that didnt crack and came off....so most likelly you wont be able to have a nice finish!
