under drive crank pulley
 

i was reading a search on balance belt removal and heard that an under drive crank pulley will wear-out bearings faster.i already bought one off ebay and wondering if i shouldn't use it or maybe switch to the aem set with just the accessory pulleys.

If it's your daily driver, I would leave the OEM crank pulley in place and use the AEM pulley set. If you don't plan to put many miles on the engine, then go for the underdrive crank pulley.

Better yet... If you can do without power steering, then get the Fluidampr underdrive crank pulley, and you won't have anything to worry about.

i wouldnt use that ebay pully get real tested company one.

Use Unorthodox only....they make good stuff, I and many more have run them for a long time with no problems

Your underdrive pulley isn't necessarily bad. I noticed that there are questions regarding the bearing wear caused by underdrive pulleys. The purpose of an underdrive pulley is to free up low end power by reducing the parasitic loss cause by your accessories like you alternator and air conditioner compressor at the same time you are extending the life of your alt and comp. An underdrive pulley slows the belt speed down, that's it. It doesn't change your idle speed hence it doesn't mess with crankshaft rpm. Two factors do come in to play, however. One is the harmonic damper used to cancel out engine vibration caused by frequencies within the motor: you cannot get rid of this. Either your pulley has to attach to the end of it, or you buy a pulley that is designed to include the damper. The other is the oil pump. I do not know on your motor if your oil pump is belt driven or if it is internally gear driven. The only other way i could see a bearing getting toasted if it wasn't damaged from harmonics is it getting burned up from not enough oil. If the pump is internal, you're fine. It's pumping the same. If your pump is belt driven, you'd be in trouble because you're spinning less rpm on the pump therefore pushing less oil to the engine and running out of lubrication for your bearings.

Check out your pulley and engine setup and you can decide for yourself.

Yeah, don't mess w/the dampener. I've used an Unorthodox crank pulley since '99 no problems, plus, it's a hella lot lighter than the stock pulley. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

So you're saying don't mess with the damper, and then you're recommending to replace it with a UR pulley (which doesn't have a damper)?? WTF?

so it's possible to keep my harmonic balancer with my new pulley .i all ready have the kit so i'd like to install it . but then i start reading stuff on ht and it makes me wonder.

the dampener is in the pulley. If you want to keep the dampener keep the stock crank pulley or get a fluidampner pulley.
