Timing Belt walking off.
Can anyone Tell me how my timing belt is walking off my cam gears, and rubbing my valve cover??

Not enough belt tension.

It's not a tension issue if you've got the auto-tensioner. The belt coming off is typically an issue with #19 being bent and it puts the tensioner bearing out of alignment. It's easy to bend it when torquing the 12mm on the end.

isnt there also 2 alignment shims on the crank that help hold into place? are you missing one?

Hopefully a dumb question, but if you removed your balance shaft belt, do you still have the pulley on the crank for it? Once when I was in a rush I forgot to replace mine, and the belt walked out quickly. Luckily I caught it while the car was still on stands.

Say PirateMcFred and anyone else who can help, I sent my prelude (1992, H22A) in for it's timing belt at a Honda dealer, all good and well. 10k Km's later I decided to fix up the LMA's which were shot, but my timing belt wouldn't release tension nor could I get the adjusting nut (#34 in your diagram) to undo! And for the record my belt also runs off the cams, I leave the upper cover off so I can keep a watch full eye on it, i don't trust the current setup!!!
I tried everything but this bolt would not undo (i used a plumbing wrench which has digged into the bolt but still no luck!). Honda obviously messed something up (over torqued, bent or lock tight). They also neglected to put on #12 (the spring), which is causing that #13 plate to vibrate/make vibration sounds at 1.5k rpm. Is that spring crucial? What can I do to fix this up? I can't lift the engine out myself, plus I need the car to get me to work etc and Honda wouldn't accept any responsibility, but I could pay them to get it fixed.... Guess breaking/snapping the bolt off is my only hope? I have attached some pics and there it is obvious that the bolt withstood a large amount of torque! Last image is the bolt that is suppose to release some tension so I can get the timing belt of the cams, but no such luck. |

Take it back to the stealership and tell them to fix their mess.

Heat could work, don't know how much more "handling" the bolt can take though. I would take it back to the dealership but to be honest I cant trust them now. It's not that hard to tighten a nut to 45nm and to put a spring back that fell off/got taken off, not sure how they messed that up!
I can see it being even worse if the car goes back, the guy who created the mess will be blamed, and he will have to fix it. The blame will lead to anger, which will be taken out on the car he is working on, hence more problems later. Ideally I need to get it loose but I don't think it will. If I snap the nut off, surely I can then relieve the timing belt/balancer belt tension, then un-bolt the tensioner pulleys bolt from the block to allow me to thread in a new bolt to set the tensioner etc on? |

In the end, yes, that is an option.
And that spring, is only there to provide the tension when adjusting the belt, otherwise that arm should be locked in place. |

That's not correct. That plate/arm (#13) floats all the time. The spring is required to keep it from rattling. It is not necessary to have #13 at all IMO.

^ #13 definitely makes a vibration/rattle sound at this point and the plate, although fixed, it can move a small amount. Well guess Ill be trying heat to get it undone and if all else fails Ill snap off that nut, my LMA are truly "lost-motion" assemblies now....
