Taking off the butterfly plate
 

do i just unbolt the top half and remove the plate? if so do i need to replace it with another gasket or what have you guys done instead of the gasket

is there any bad things that can happen by removing the plate?

Removing it is pointless. You just loose low-end power....search.

You will likely have to pry the plate up if it has never been taken off before. Just use a flathead. I used hondabond to reseal it since i fubar'd the gasket.

You will have to remove the studs and replace the studs with properly lengthed bolts.

i forgot to mention the car is boosted, wouldnt this help more than hurt in my case?

when your boosted you want a larger plenum size in the intake, instead of taking out the plate just remove the butterfly valves and the rod and plug up the holes. or get with blacktrax and get their replacement plate.

the IAB plate is technically part of the runners, not of the plenum.

a new oem gasket is like $7, just be sure to scrape the old one off completely

most of the FI IM's i have seen use short runners and large plenums so technically i guess it would be helping your situation.

I'm still working on getting some kind of analysis on whether it helps NA.

For a turbo car you would want SHORT FAT runners. With a turbo your only concern is air flow capacity. For instance...

A manifold like the one about would be perfect for a turbo application. There is less distance for the pressurized air to go thru. This is made by edelbrock for turbo cars. Now a manifold like this one...

removing the butterfly plate will reducing throttle response since you are decreasing the volume of air in the IM. For racing app its fine since your usually @ WOT but for a DD its best you leave them there for low end torque. Unless its a race vehicle you will not benefit. Its all about volume.

wouldnt less volume = faster response since the air is able to travel from the plenum to the combustion chamber in a shorter distance?

i have noticed absolutely no bad effects of removing my plate, that i can feel.
