Default Royal Purple vs. Mobil1 Synthetic

Hey everyone. After I seafoam my engine, I'm going to be switching over to full synthetic.

What would you recommend: Royal Purple 5w30 or Mobil1 5w30 Full synthetic?

And also, what oil filter would be good with these oils?

I like Royal Purple, but I can also get that cheaper than Mobil 1. A friend of mine has 2 trans-ams, one has an LT1, and one is an LS1. Both motors are known for lifter noise, especially on the first startup. He had always run Mobil1, and after I talked him into trying the Royal Purple, he said that the lifter noise was almost completely gone, so I give it a

I always get Mobil1 5w30 full synthetic and the fram filter with the grippy stuff on the end. I got a Mobil1 filter one time(5qts of Mobil1 and the filter for 30 bucks kinda sale)and that was a pain to get off cuz my hand just slipped right off.

Never had a problem with Mobil1 and don't plan on switching til I do.

I've been getting equal responses from everyone lol. Some say royal purple and some say mobil1.

Well what filters are you guys running along with oil?

I remember reading somewhere about how mobil 1 is no longer the same grade synthetic as royal purple. not 100% synthetic like they say. ill look for that info.

I use a Napa (Wix) filter (becuase I work there) or a K&N filter. I like the K&N because it has a nice bit nut on the end you can put a wrench on if it gets stuck.

there was a magazine article recently that rated the NAPA gold filter as one of the best quality, and filtering, oil filters on the market. i remember them rating FRAM very low because the whole inside was constructed out of paper. i used to use fram but now switched to NAP gold and noticed my oil pressure slightly increased. just my 2 cents.

ill try to find the article i read this in so i can post it

I've heard not to use fram from few people so I'm staying away from it. Plus taking off an oil filter is no biggy for me because I have the tool.

And also, I've heard s2000 filters were good too. What year/part number is that?

I use the mobile 10w30 full syn extended in both my cars. 1 i get it cheap, 2 it has quiet load engine sounds and it starts right up in the cold mornings. Still use the fram filter with the grip on the end tho, haven't heard anything or seen anything bad about it.

after seeing a friend of mines fresh build spin bearings because his NEW (not OEM) filter clogged and starved the bearings of oil, i'll never use anything besides OEM honda.

If one of them isn't API certified, I'd pick that one.

Don't use seafoam anywhere in your engine. It's beyond horrible for seals. If you want to clean your engine, do it gently. http://www.auto-rx.com works very well in cleaning, and conditions seals. You can read about it on the largest oil forum, http://www.bobistheoilguy.com .

The only reasonably priced oils worth using are Amsoil, German Castrol (syntec) 0W-30 (it must say Made in Germany on the back) and Mobil1 0W-40. These are the only oils that are real synthetics. All the other Mobil1 formulations don't use a synthetic basestock anymore, just like almost all the Castrol Syntec oils. Surprise- German Castrol and M1 0W-40 are European oils. You can't go wrong with Amsoil at all. Their 0W-30 oil (and the others too) is fantastic, and so are their oil and air filters.

Got the idea from a friend of mine...havent had any problems with it at all my last 5 oil changes i used it

There is a thread in the all-motor forum by rocket (master of the universe) that pertains to my answer.

Of course, there is no telling with things written on the internet(s). They could be full of crap
At any rate, I am sure that there are those that would dispute what rocket was discussing, but that is life. I'll go for oil that is more similar to the oil that was around when my engine was made. This assumption may also be a poor one

OEM civic oil filter? It should be the same. It's better to get a bigger oil filter like the sk2 or mobile 1/k&N so it can filter better.

Mobil1 0w-40 + K&N filter. I remember the hoppla when Mobil1 switched to the new & "improved" base stock....everyone was not happy about. But all the major auto mags said the same thing; the "euro" blend 0w-40 was still good to go. That's why im sticking to it. It also got rid of valve ticking on start up on one of my vehicles, and I use it in my other 2 imports as well...

Im curious though as to why, Honda recommends ow-20 as the new oem oil? I mean thats pretty "light" even for socal area isn't it?

In the end though, it works just fine, had worked fine, and i move to worry about other random things....
