Prelude spoiler
 

Alright tech folks... i heard from a friend that adding a spoiler that is not 'calibrated' for the car will actually deteriorate the performance of the car in exchange for the added look..

the physics is something like this: the rise of the spoiler on the trunk will cause additional air to be dragged under the front engine bay, causing the engine to compensate by working harder and therefore reducing MPG as well as relative performance versus the the air flow in the standard design...

truly, there isn't much of a difference. And if there is then it isn't noticeable. I don't even think the spoiler on the prelude is functional.

at high speed they are supposed to "push" the back end of the car down for stability, which in turn probably does cause the front end to raise up alittle. I think it is more for looks on our everyday cars, and i "think" it better helps rear wheel drive cars who need the ass end firmly on the ground to make sure that all the availible power is being put down and to keep spin out causing lift from the back around high speed turns and such....

thats all pretty much right like you said it... wings keep the car, namely the rear end planted at high speeds (ie, not 60-80mph!) at low speeds they have next to no effect dynamicly.... changing from the stock spoiler in theory changes the dynamics of the vehicle, but the changes are so negligible that it doesnt matter unless you're racing at high rates of speed or cornering at high speeds.

unless you own a rear wheel drive prelude or feel like bolting the wing to your hood theres really no point in getting one. I have an oem one and the only reason its still on my car is because i think the car looks retarted without one and my prelude is my daily driver.
