Official Lightest Preludes List

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
I think most of us hit that dilemma. I have always planned to keep my car fully streetable, and if I ever want a stripped shell of a race car, I will build an ef civic or crx.
My car only has a/c and Cruise deleted, and a c/f hood. I take out the spare and jack etc from the trunk, and try to keep under 1/3 tank of gas at the track. But I still have all seats and carpet, working sunroof, radio, etc.
I figure the best way to get the car lighter should be to drop it from myself, being 6ft 3, I have alot of weight on me, but can get down 35-40 from where I am now. 2 weeks of no beer and I lost 10 lbs lol

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
Weighed mine on a truck scale that wasn't extremely accurate, but it was 2700-2720lbs w/o driver.
No p/s, a/c, c-cntrl, cf hood, no spare, gutted trunk/back seat, 11lb wheels, removed airbag, tiny battery, flywheel/clutch......
I have a CF plug for it, would love to find a CF trunk......Going to remove the carpet, interior plastic, install lighter seats, ditch all ABS/SRS/Audio/Heater/Power Windows......but then add a cage. I really don't care about weight that much. I don't want it to be a Civic.....besides, we have H series motors B)
Ultimately going to be an Unlimited build for my enjoyment with no rules/classes in mind....
2700lbs w/ driver(215) with ~300whp is fine by me.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
just lost 40 lb, by going to a lithium battery
If anyone wants one you should contact piratemcfred, as he has some for sale for a good price also.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
I always hate resurrecting old threads but thought it would be pointless to start a new one. Any updates on 5th gen weights? I'm building a circle track car and was hoping to get down to 2200 range w/o driver but with a 6 point cage. That may be wishful thinking but outside of GoldLude's extreme weight reduction, there isn't much info out there.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
My 5th gen circle track car without me. Still has the full factory exhaust. I plan on ditching that soon for something lighter and much shorter.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
Yeah it's pretty light. I started at 3,029 lbs. I think I'm going to get a smaller battery as well. Basically the only things left I can do are exhaust, battery and fab up an aluminum hood. That could get me down to around 2230-2250 ball park.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
After replacing the factory exhaust with a straight pipe, I was able to get the car done to 2282 empty. So that saved me 23lbs from the factory exhaust.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
I don't understand the obsession of lightning Preludes- especially the 5th gen's. The cars are well built with minimal flex and aren't very heavy when compared to other cars in their category. People compare them to civics (I have one) which are built so much cheaper and not in the same class. My '99 Prelude base drastically outperforms in every conceivable way both my '97 Civic Ex and '97 Integra GS-R.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
Most of the people who have been really into this are racers, so they are not concerned about the creature comforts of the car, they want the best power to weight ratio possible, or least amount of weight for suspension to deal with on a track. Generally these are people who really love the character and looks of the Prelude, or a specific of the chassis.
Personally I just love Preludes, and have debated buying a cheap Civic shell just to race.

Re: Official Lightest Preludes List
mine was 1300 kg = 2 866 lbs
With basic stuff: aftermarket exhaust, wheels, suspension
Aem pulleys and cam gears, lightened flywheel
Full tank of gas, seibon trunk & hood (dont know are they any lighter than oem) and aluminium rad (probably adds weight)
