The Official Honda Prelude Header Thread H22A F20B
People always talk about what headers are out there. There is no official thread, so I'm going to start one here and maintain this thread. I will be posting pictures of each one shortly. Also, if anyone has a before and after dyno of any of the headers, let me know so I can make the links as well. If you are running a header not listed here, get me some pictures, etc. etc.
HyTech 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header Approx $1050
http://www.hytechexhaust.com
HyTech produces 3 different types of headers for the H22A, depending on how much power your engine makes. Their headers are made with stainless steel using their patented anti-reversion chambers.
Users using HyTech Headers:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1433897
SMSP 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header Approx $1150
SMSP - http://www.sms-products.com
Dave from SMSP is a well-respected header fabricator. He has experimented with many H22A designs, including the sequential paring design in his prototypes. I’ve seen a couple versions of his header out there, and they are top notch quality. Of course, you get what you pay for, and SMSP is no exception. Tell him what you need, and he’ll make it for you.

RMF (Randy Monroe Fabrication) 4-1 Header Approx $750
http://www.importpowerhouse.com
Randy has been around forever it seems, but only now are you seeing more of his headers being run on the streets. The header comes in either mild steel, ceramic coated, or stainless steel. They feature a unique looking equal length design where the primaries are curved. These headers are great for all-out drag racing where high rpm power is your main goal.
Users using RMF Headers:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=475739
DTR Fabrications 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header Approx $1200
http://www.sixsigmaracing.com
Danny Tran is not new to import racing, and his products appear to be of high quality. His headers are made of stainless steel, using the same 4-2-1 combination that both HyTech and SMSP use. I have not personally seen an unbiased 3rd party dyno graph of these headers, so I can’t tell you how good they are, but they look promising!
AN-R / Prospeed 4-1 Race Header Approx $550
http://www.an-r.com
There is some controversy surrounding these headers. Some people claim to make horsepower with these headers. I, myself, made HP with these headers, but I lost quite a bit of mid-range power. To clarify, they are similar in design to the RMF header, but it is not made by Randy himself. There have been reports of early versions of these headers cracking because they were made of 18G steel. They are now made of 16G steel, but I have not yet seen any of the new ones being used. The AN-R header gives you the option to have a stamp/street or merge collector, mild steel or stainless steel.
Users using Prospeed/AN-R Headers:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=620523
Hotshot Performance 4-1 Ceramic Coated Header Approx $430
http://www.hotshot.com
These headers are one of the few 4-1 headers being produced in the market. It is a 4-1 equal length race header with 18" x 2-1/2" diameter straight-open collector. This header only fits in a Civic or Integra chassis. It will not clear the Prelude or Accord chassis. Because of this issue, the Hotshot Performance header isn’t widely used. Some people have also reported clearance issues with it on Civics and Integras as well. If this header didn’t have those clearance issues, it really looks like a header that would make power, and at an affordable price. As of writing this, I have not seen a before and after dyno of this header.
Mugen 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header
http://www.kingmotorsports.com
This header is bling bling. Unfortunately, for the price you pay, there are better headers out there. Unless you’re car is a show car, I would stay away from this one.
Users using Mugen Headers:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1324527
Vibrant Performance 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header
http://www.vibrantperformance.com
These headers are not CARB legal. They are of DC Sports style, but the tubes are slightly bigger. This would lead one to believe that they make more power than their CARB legal counterparts. I have not seen any dyno graphs on the before and after of this header.
DC Sports 4-2-1 w/ 2.5" Collector
New DC Sports Header w/ 2.5" collector is supposed to make more power than its previous brothers.
Camp1320 H22A Header
• Mild steel / Tig welds • Tri-Y Design Stepped
• Ceramic coated • Track / dyno proven
• Claims 20hp WHP Gains
• Made in the U.S.A
DC Sports 4-2-1
Greddy 4-2-1
Megan Racing 4-2-1
OBX Racing 4-2-1
Pacesetter 4-2-1
These are the CARB legal headers. These headers make little WHP over stock, if any. I don’t see why anyone would want to waste their money on it. If you plan to get a CARB legal header, stick w/ the OBX Racing one, because you can get it for under $200 on eBay. All the headers feature a small 2.0” collector that restricts exhaust flow. A popular thing to do is to get one of these headers, and modify the collector. This is done by cutting off collector at the end of the header, and welding a 2.25” or 2.5” pipe to it.

Re: The Official Honda Prelude Header Thread H22A F20B (cpforyou)
sick i like offical threads, they make me all tingly inside.. just a simple request if anyone ever has the time, im looking for a dyno that shows the dc 4-2-1 with the collector mod, just curious what it gains, I have one kicking around and am wondering if i should do the mod.
#3
well, i have an rmf "mild build" header, a copy j's racing intake, and a 60mm apexi catback...on my otherwise stock h22
i put down 183whp and 140wtq on the rlz dynapack, stock h22s put down like 135-145whp on there....
feels great i used to have a greddy with a 2.5 collector and this is leaps and bounds better, over that already awesome header
i would love to have dynojet numbers on it....but the fact that it put down 38-48whp over stock h22s is great....howard pulled up a dyno sheet of an I/IM/H/E/P h22 with a 75 shot and i put down more power than it did....
next wednesday my brothers civic is getting tuned at rlz, jdm h22, aem cai, my greddy, and an rsr catback....so we can have some means of comparison on the same dyno....

good thinking cpforyou
WeaponR has a header too.
you also forgot the legendary H22 Header test/teaser - https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=922589
edit = for the lazy/n00bs maybe a link of how to obtain these headers.

Re: The Official Honda Prelude Header Thread H22A F20B (cpforyou)
hey, would you not recommend these headers for builds starting up? I see the RMF header has went down in price, now i migh consider getting one. I had my eye on T1R (spoon satalite company) header. Which are about the same price now.

Gee there are headers out there for such a low-production motor as the F20B but no decent headers out there for the far more common H23A1/JDM DOHC F22B At one point I called SMSP and asked about a prototype H23 header. He did not even have a H23 head for a jig, but he makes D-series headers...

I feel that this needs reiteration. This thread s a good idea but the exclusion of the H23A1 is depressing. What is so wrong with wanting to build an H23? When will people realize that it is a viable alternative to an H22 Swap both financially and in terms of power?

What is is different from H22A and H23A that the header will not fit? I've always wondered about that.
An H22A Header will work on an F20B.

Exactly. I hate how everyone ditches the H23 so they can have m4d Vt3k, the H23 still has potential. I look at it like a B18B compared to a B18C. No VTEC, but that doesn't mean it's worthless and nobody should build it.

Re: The Official Honda Prelude Header Thread H22A F20B (92SleeperH23)
i have a dtr and am very happy with it. eventually i will have a dyno comparison against a prospeed header. i paid 970 for the mild steel. i coated it w/ VHT 1500 deg. header paint and it has held up 100%.

The H23's port spacing is a little wider, the h23 ports themselves are a little wider and shorter whereas the H22's ports are talller and more round. The flange bolt pattern is different too.
I don't get why Honda went to all the trouble to make it different on the H-series and kept it all the same on the B-series...

Good Thread
Here's a picture of the ground clearance of prototype #5 which is just about the same as the current H22 header of mine.
