Default blowing black smoke when i hit v-tech? any thoughts?

Everytime i hit v-tech in my 96 prelude i blow black smoke. i figured it might have to do with timing or maybe ignition but not sure. any thoughts?

Step 1: Pop your hood and look at the valve cover.
Step 2: Check your A/F ratios.

its smoking because there is plastic in your motor...vtech is a toy. as for a problem with VTEC...the valve seals or rings could be worn or bad or you have an oil leak somewhere.

black smoke is generally a sign of burning too much fuel or a rich condition. Have you done any tune up work recently or ever? Plugs, wires, cap/rotor, O2 sensor, etc?

Dude... Black smoke at VTEC crossover is only common in about 99.9999999% of all VTEC Hondas... The ECU is richening the fuel mixture as it should, but it might be richening it too much... You might want to check your VTEC fluid to make sure its still good.

Well if you are running rich, do you have a bad cat? hollowed cat? testpipe? welded straightpipe?

It could blow the motor if it is low if im not mistaken i check mine everyday.
