The G23 VTEC thread would be better for this, but I'll ask here anyway. If you were to take an H22 head and F23 block, could you put it together with an H23 belt with H23 upper and lower timing gears? I'd rather not have to source the H22 parts if I don't have to, plus my timing belt has 10k miles on it

sohc and dohc motors have different belt lengths, so no, you cannot.

You read my post wrong.

Anyway, I got the info I needed. H23 cam gears won't fit H22 cams, so that's pretty much the end of that idea. I'm not so sure about reving a basically stock F23 bottom end to 7500 anyway

I am almost 100% positive that they WILL. I started out back in the day with an H23 motor, had AEM cam gears and then later went with an H22 setup. I took the gears off the H23, machined a new outer ring gear (where the belt rids) and then had to make a washer to go behind the gear to space it out correctly. The inner hub was reused and fit the diameter of the cam, I just needed to make spacers and of course make a new outter gear but you wouldnt need to do that if you were using the H23 belt.

I know your post is old and its probably not worth modifying, just throwing that out there.

anything that the h22 timing belt touches, should be a h22 component.
h22 crank gear, cam gear, modified water pump with an h22 gear....

Hey there, am new to this forum, have been doing some research on the "G23" build and can not find any definitive info on how to time the engine. I have an H22 crank gear but can not find any info on if it needs to have the timing location modified or install on the same key way as the F23 crank gear. any information would be great

do you have to modify the H22 crank gear and have a new key way cut in it or do you put the factory key way on the F23 factory crank key way? do you use the same factory timing marks on the block?
