Mugen body kit??
I did a search and didn't find anything. What is the Mugen body kit for Preludes made of? Someone told me once that it wasn't just fiberglass. If not, than what is it? Urethane? Anyone know? Thanks.

not sure, but it costs a **** load. You can buy a knockoff that looks JUST like it from VIS and I think that is a fiberglass kit that is affordable. I dont' know exact prices though.
I looked into it when my front end was damaged. I almost got the VIS front end, but after researching it, I passed. MUGEN is way overpriced and the VIS is fiberglass. **** that. I've seen what happens to fiberglass front ends when you accidentally "bump" the parking stops.... it cracks it and then you're screwed. You're way better of the OEM polyurethane kit. Direct bolt on, perfect fit, matched paint, looks good enough, and has some flex in case you bump something.
you can get the whole OEM kit for like $800 and it bolts on and you're done.
If you have an SH you really only need the front lip to start out and you can add the thicker sides/rear later. The front is under $200 and looks great. Besides, with the OEM front you can then use JDM fogs if you want. I dont' know if JDM fogs fit into the MUGEN front end....

A real Mugen kit has a small problem with the JDMs, friend had one and needed to shave a bit to fit his in.....
If you were going to buy the real thing, and prepared to spend the money....the kit really cant be beat...

Yeah, I don't like fiberglass kits either. That's why I was wondering what the Mugen's made out of. I've heard of a lot of fitment probs and quality issues with VIS kits also. I like urethane parts, but that's hard to find. The Honda kit is actually what I'm looking at the most, but I saw a blue lude with the Mugen kit on it (dunno if it was fake) at a Honda dealership (I think someone that works there) and it was friggin SHWEET!! And it was a really nice fit also, so I was wondering if it was real Mugen. I've seen Mugen kits with the JDM fogs in them, so it looks like they'll fit. I'm still wondering what it's made of. If it's something similar to urethane, than it may be an option. I like the exclusivity factor of Mugen...tho, I do also agree that they're WAY overpriced!!

Oh, and Bullet: check out http://www.hparts.com and http://www.handa-accessories.com for the factory kits. They both carry them for much better prices! I think the price you got from the dealer was an installed price.

that's where I got my front lip. $1500 for the kit?? NO WAY. You can put it on yourself. I did the front lip and it was not hard at all.

If you don't like Fiberglass and you want something urethane you can go with the OEM or something similar go with the Wings West RS kit. They fit good and they're pretty cheap. Just my two cents

I don't have a prelude, but I know the mugen kit you are talking about. To my understanding, the Mugen Kit for the Prelude is Urethane, not like wings west flimsy urethane, but like OEM HONDA urethane, as in like your stock bumper now. It also has some bad *** plastic coverings for the JDM foglights and corner lamps, so the rocks don't crack it. That is the best way to seperate real from fake. The plastic coverings are something that you can't copy that easy. Dope kit though, no mateer if real or fake, just kind of on the Big side.

fiberglass SUCKS. I know a guy who had a fiberglass front end on his eclipse. He hit a parkign stop and cracked it. Had to buy a new front end. that sucks.
it doesn't give like eurethane. It just cracks.

Re: Mugen body kit?? (ek_mr5)
Allmost every Japanese body kit manufacturer use fiberglass NOT urethane. It's very rare (and I dont know any) that a jdm company will use urethane to build their kits.
I believe OE bumpers are ABS plastic. Also, there's nothing covering the foglights and turn signals on the real or fake mugen kit (ala Mugen NSX or CRX kit). It's just a silver trim surrounding the area where the two lights go.
