HUGE POLL: HELP! In dire need! ALL PRELUDE GURUS! swap dedline feb 1st 2006
A lot of people are familiar with my predicament. My 133k motor lost compression in 1 cylinder and I'm leaning towards blown head gasket or a bent /bad sealed valve. The cylinder walls have no scratches so I think the rings are ok (unless u can tell me other wise)... Compression test resulted
190-140-190-195
Now I tore apart the head only to find the block and head in great condition... Soon after I bought a JG engine dynamics head and spent a lot of money getting it ready to put on (250 at a machine shop.. etc) ... My plan was to swap the existing 133k h22a1 out and put in a new jdm short block using my existing transmission, and the new head.. But now I'm having a ton of trouble finding just short block and I’m running out of time. My mom (Hey!, I’m only 17 and live with my parents) said I have to get the car out of the garage by February 1st , therefore I am on a strict time limit. On top of this I might as well get a long block to make it easier (bout 1000-1300$) because I can only find a short block for 600+$…
This is where I am at now! Head is off, Suspension forks are unbolted and Axles are kind of removed. Engine mounts are still in (But I bought ES inserts)…
I am on a strict deadline and a pretty strict budget. I would rather not dig over 1k in the pocket at a time (because i can sell my stock parts)
This is where the Poll comes in… MY choices
1: Continue with the swap. Remove existing h22a1 and sell stock head and block. Search h-t for a JDM short block to install. Bite the bullet and pay 250$ for shipping . Re install and hope I make the deadline (or close to it)
2. Remove h22a1 and pick up a h23 locally. Install the h23 (complete swap) and sell my h22 parts, and down the road … turbo it (100K on it )
3. Leave in existing h22a1 block. Re install axles and suspension. Then put the built head back on the existing 133k and Hope that the rings aren’t toast. (take a risk) This would be the quickest solution (1-2 days) although if the problem, is with the block.. then I am forced to do it all over again! DOH!
4. Remove h22a1. Sell all parts including tranny. Buy complete longblock (JDM) and reinstall (1500+)
5. Other.. (provide post)

even if **** costs you money, take your time and do what YOU want to have done. if you need to, fix it for now and change something later... no use putting in something you don't want and keeping it that way. life is full of choices and unexpected bills... grab life by the go-nads and make it into what you want

test the old head like i told you in your other thread and find out if it was the valves leaking. if the cylinder walls look ok then i would lean in the direction of a bad valve. but you need to check the cylinder walls up and down the entire bore looking for scratching. the other thing you can do is check the cylinders for egging. see if the bore is actaully like ( ) in stread of | | , over exadurated but u get the idea.
if you can accurately determine if you had ring or valve leakage that would determine the way i would go.
2 questions. are you looking to sell the old h22 head/ block? and where did you get the CF trunk

just tried it.. but the intake manifold is still on so i could only see if half the valves were leaking. and they appeared to be fine.. I will check thecylinders again...

Try to find a beater locally, maybe like a 500 car and leave the lude in the garage, until it is done. Don't rush your build.

good idea. id say no need to buy another motor. just refresh your block, with new bearings, and new rings with a hone job
all this shouldnt cost you more than 500. and if done right you will have a brand new engine. in my opinion thats your best bet. just make sure that its a reputable shop. they could probably balance your crank and rods and pistons also. and at that price you could make sure to use new timing belt and water pump etc

I say #1 If that is your "dream" then stick to it. Worse case rent a "storage unit" and put the car there until you can find the corrent parts.
Good luck!
