Default New member that has questions..PICS

i need the monitors to read "ready"

i just bought a 1997 prelude and well like other things that i buy i like to join forums to talk about or ask help about what i bought.. i bought the car and it came with a motor (original motor was misfiring real bad) so the motor that came with the car got put in right away. the car also came with a Megan racing full exhaust w/test pipe. i needed the car to pass inspection so i bought a cat for it. the car has yet to throw a code but i cant get the monitors to read "ready". well i have 6 out of 8 saying they are ready.. the Catalyst and EVAP are reading not ready even after 200+ miles of driving. wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on this... sorry for the long post!!! here is a pic of the car!!

Takes a few on and off trips for all the sensors to be set. You could always reset the ecu and see if they'll all set.

With the engine at operating temp: Drive stop-and-go with short periods of steady cruise. Go at least 62mph then let off the accelerator for at least 5 seconds. After several miles this should set the catalyst readiness code.

For the EVAP it just says to drive stop-and-go with short periods of steady cruise.

Also, check your state's requirements for readiness codes. Some states you can get by with 1 or 2 codes not set. Like I know here in TX you can have 1 readiness code not set and still pass. If you're in Cali you're SOL, sorry.

oh and recently i got a p0301. its weird because i only notice the misfire at idle every once in awhile. it is not an all the time thing. i took a plug and wire off my other motor just hoping for a quick fix. it usually takes a couple of days for the misfire hard code to set.

talking about the monitors- i do have a full Megan racing exhaust with a high flow cat welded in. think this would cause my cat monitor not to set?

I don't think the high flow would mess up the cat monitor. You might need to check your egr and the egr ports to see if they're building up with carbon deposits

Did you use the defouler trick on the secondary O2 sensor?

^^ IDK, would it hurt at this point. I do know that you have to do that with a straight pipe. What do the plugs look like now? If they're burnt looking then it's probably running lean due to the sensors reading rich because of the expanded exhaust.
