How do I remove the harmonic balancer bolt?
I am attempting to replace the water pump on my granson's F22B2 2.2 L. engine. I am having trouble removing the bolt that hold the harmonic balancer pulley on the end of the crankshaft. It is a left or right hand thread. To undo it, do I attempt to turn counter-clockwise or clockwise?
Please help.
Thanks

Re: HOW TO REMOVE HARMONIC BALANCER BOLT
Good luck, It took me 4 days, 5 different impact guns and a lot of frustration to finally get my sons off. I ended up using a 1000 FT Lbs of tork 1 inch drive impact that I borrowed from a friend whom owns a tire shop that sercices large rigs.
But to answer your question it turns counter clock wise to come off.

get the balancer holding tool. I believe it looks like a hex with an open center. this will keep the crank from moving while you try to undo the bolt. the bolt is torqued down to 180 ft lbs

1200 ft-lb snap on impact gun, 1 pull of trigger without hammering, that bolt=my bitch.
But if using hand tools, get the holder mentioned, a 1/2" breaker bar and a reeeeealy long 'cheater' pole, oh and a torque wrench capable of tightening it to where it needs to be cause that pulley coming off will ruin your day.

just put on thread lock and tighten it as much as you can when you re-install, no need to torque exactly 180 ft-lbs
I hate this freaking thing my 600 ft lb impact was zipping at my dad's crank bolt for at least 10 min and no dice. Next thing I'm gonna try is heat. I have the crank pulley tool but you need 2 breaker bars and some 1/2" extensions

^Haha, yeah mine did the same but a friend at work came over and was like "use this, it's got 1200 ft-llbs and it zipped it off instantly.
If you have a floor jack you should take the pole off of that to get some leverage, also helps to only use as long of an extension as you need without putting 2 together, you lose torque that way.
