Both are great. The 300ZX is a platform with a huge power potential. The only problem is underhood temperatures on the track can get high, which means cooked plastic. Handling is not too bad. The car is just a bit hefty.
The Prelude, however, is more of a everyday car that has a lot of potential for handling and power. Can't complain about its reliability, either.

Re: (thegeorge613)
my friends got a 300zx and its nice but i still like my prelude better. his turbo was obviously faster but thats not the only thing you should look at.

Re: (M@)
300zx twin turbo is rare, and well twin turbo = power. Unfortunately i'm gonna have to say 300zx even though this is a prelude forum and most people here will say prelude, but damn a twin turbo!? , but whatever you like best.

Get the Z. I've had a 5th gen turbo prelude and a NA Z32. I think everyone should own a Z at some point in his/her life. They are not the fastet car around, nor the lightest, but driving one to its limits is pure magic. Not to mention that for around a thousand dollars you can have 400rwhp. That being said, expect to pay about twice the amount for performance parts for the Z.

I have a 5th gen lude and my friend has a heavily modified 300zx TT which he lets me drive since his license is suspended. The TT Z is quick. Stock 0-60 is 5.1 and with his mods he's been able able to break away from just about any car he comes across. It might be a heavy car, but most of the weight is in the huge engine and stiffening the chassis. In the end, if you're just going turbo, you might as well get the Z. But they do have some funky electrical problems and remember, the Z has no back seat as well. Good luck with whatever purchase. Either way, you'll come out a happy person.

Wow. Someone referred to a 3.0L v6 as "huge"
Daily driver: get the prelude. FWD > RWD in shitty weather. Gas mileage would probably also be better. It's also not built like a nissan.
Track car / Weekend car: 300zx. RWD, Twin turbo 3.0L v6. They're not ***** out fast in stock form, but they have nice potential. You also don't have to deal with all the crap with making the ECU recognize positive pressure.
Also, your deciding factor in this buy should NOT be that it has two turbos, so it makes that cool noise. That's retarded.

The Porche 928 has a 3.0 4 cylinder, now that's pretty huge.
Very strong motor too

Um...it's a 928. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't those the shitbox FR-layout porsches that nobody liked?
Anyway, the 3.0L v6 line was an attempt to be cocky about my LS1 swap

a porsche 928 has a v8, perhaps you are thinking of a 924
