H22a4, resurfacing of block, do I need thicker head gasket?
Got my block back from machine shop and there were a couple deep scratches on the deck, for some reason they didn't resurface it, so I took it back to them. The guy owned it and said he would fix it but that he would need to take about 0.002 off to smooth it up. The block had already been decked once before when I sent it off to Golden Eagle for sleeves, but I am sure they did it as minimally as possible and the indicator buttons are still below the surface of the deck, etc...
Do I need a thicker head gasket? I'm running a JRSC @ 11psi, stock compression ratio, 87mm forged pistons, etc. I just want to make sure I have enough clearance for valves, etc, and I don't know how much that 0.002 will affect the compression ratio.
If I get a thicker head gasket do I go with a cometic? Does Honda make a thicker OEM gasket?
TIA.

0.002" is next to nothing. No you will not need to use a thicker head gasket. HG thicknesses are usually in 0.010" or 0.015" increments anyway, so the next size thicker would be MUCH thicker than the amount being shaved off.

Understood, however the surface of the head and the surface of the block had been resurfaced once before. Stock gasket is 0.029 unless I am mistaken, Cometic makes a 0.030 and 0.036. Wouldn't make sense to get either of those?

If Cometic makes a 0.036" gasket, then yeah you could go that route. But it's not necessary
