I have us spec h22a4 non sh, wondering if it will fit in place of an h22a1 for a 1996 prelude. any special mounts needed?

Complete bolt in. It's the same block, externally.

The only thing to watch out for:

1) Use your old wiring harness.

2) Use your a1 distributor, external coil, fuel rail and injectors.

3) You do not need to hook up the CKP sensor on the a4, which is located in the lower rear of the block. The a1 distributor has the CKP sensor built in.

Everything else is bolt in. (I put an a4 in my 95 Si)

and that made me think....what if you have adjustable cam gears, how would the ckp sensor still be accurate?

I don't know if there's a difference between the a4's or a1's external coil, but to be safe reuse the a1 coil.

The CKP sensor is on the distributor, so it'll pick up off the exhaust cam.

Yes, but if you have adjustable cam gears and you move the cam a few degrees out, that would make the sensor inaccurate wouldnt it?

Good question.

I don't have adjustable camgears, so I haven't had any problems with my swap.

Haven't people with a1's put adjustable cam gears on there before? wouldn't it be the same thing

Why would it not mess up the sensor? Seems like you would have to move the sensor along with the cam & gear to keep things right.
